Turtle & Canary; Thursday [ 09/13 ]

It was inventory day! That meant that nothing better show up to ruin Turtle's day. Nothing. She was armed with a clipboard, a red pen, and a bounce.

Nothing.

And she was trying something, eager to see how it would work.

Today's Squishy flavors: Mincemeat, Ink, NEW Red.

There was glitter to denote the newness of the red, but, in truth, it was just more of the bad red.

Turtle & Canary is open.

Remember the clipboard. And the pen. The bounce could be pretty dangerous, too.

Yes, I got the order wrong. SO SHOOT ME.

Annette walked in, her head bowed. She wasn't exactly limping because the kick Meg gave her wasn't anything compared to the one Turtle could. And Annette thought she ought to hurt worse than she did.

"Hi," she barely glanced up.

"Hey, Annette!" Turtle chirped as she very happily, dramatically marked off that, yes, there were exactly 28 packs of double-A batteries on this shelf, yayyyyy! "What's up?"

"I came to ask a very odd favor of you," she mumbled, looking down at the bruise that Meg had given her.

That made Turtle's red pen stop, frowning at her checkmarks as she decided if she really, really wanted to know. She dated Jeff, after all. One could only take so much oddness.

But, at the same time, no one could reach Jeff oddness. Considering this, Turtle figured there was nothing Annette could request that would faze her at this point. She bit her lip a little, marking the next shelf down. "Would you agree," she asked absently, eyes on her work, "to any possible terms of fee that might appear as a result of said request? I ask now, because, really, it's those hidden fees that will get you, but I believe in letting the customer be well informed of what they're getting themselves into."

"I would, yes," she muttered.

"Very well." Turtle very importantly flipped a page of her clipboard and wrote something down quickly on a blank space, put an X, drew down a line, and then presented it to Annette. "Sign here, please."

She pointed to the line below a hastily written "I, Annette Hargrove, agree to pay for any hidden charges that may accompany the request of service that I am asking of one (1) T.R. Wexler without complaint."

Annette looked down, read it, and then signed her name: Annette Hargrove. If she thought this strange at all, she didn't comment on it.

One could never be too careful.

"Okay, Annette," Turtle said, tucking the pen behind her ear and then wrapping her arms around the clipboard as she held it against her chest to show that the other girl had her undivided attention. "How can I help you today?"

"Ineedyoutokickmeplease," she said quickly.

"What?" Turtle's nose scrunched at the nonsensical babble coming from Annette's mouth. "Annunciate, Annette. Uh-nun-see-aaaaaate."

This was crazy.

"Kick me, Turtle."

"Kick you?" Turtle frowned. "Why? I can't just kick people, you know. Especially since I don't do it anymore unless I'm really, really ticked off or you're a stupid toady squatter like Umbitch. Kicks can't be preplanned, Annette, they have to just happen."

Turtle was going to make this difficult, wasn't she?

"You're a dork."

"Am not!" Turtle argued, shocked that Annette would suggest such a thing. "I'm being completely honest! You can't just force a kick, not if you want it to be any good. And I believe in quality of a product, Annette. Why do you want me to kick you, anyway? Would you enjoy being crippled?"

"The reason is not important. But the right shin okay? It's got to be the right. And I can take being crippled." No she couldn't. She was actually scared right now but doing her best not to show it. Annette twisted her lips.

"Get your flat-chested self over here and kick me!"

"Hey!" Turtle's arms crossed in front of her clipboard tightened. "Leave my flat chest out of this!"

Why wouldn't she just do it already? Annette was hating herself for this.

"My boyfriend..." she was really reaching here. "...he's better than yours."

Turtle scoffed. "Annette," she said. "Have you met Jeff?"

Whether or not that was an agreement was left to interpretation. "And what does that have to do with me kicking you? Wait a second! You're trying to bait me into it, aren't you? You're actually trying to bait me? Annette! I am a master baiter, I'll have you know."

"Yes," she said a little dejectedly. "I have. And I have no comment."

She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Turtle, I'm going to have to kick your ass if you don't get over here and do it first. To me. Do it, I mean. Kick me." Okay, bait that Turtle Wexler!

"Yeah, right, Annette," Turtle snorted a little and gave the other girl a firmly skeptical look that also suggested that Annette was good and crazy. "You couldn't kick crap."

Dammit!

Annette reached over to shove her.

Which Turtle didn't honestly expect. She blinked as she kept her footing at the shove. Was she serious about this? She was getting these terribly amusing flashbacks to when they were little and she totally schooled the wee tiny whiny Annette. She snorted; this was going to be good.

"Come on. Is that the best you've got? You're going to have to try a lot harder than that, Annette."
