Turtle & Canary; Tuesday [ 09/25 ]

Apu was walking on some pretty thin ice when he was being all grinny and trying to play like he had a really big secret until it hit Turtle like a wrecking ball. "Ohemgeeshipment!"

She raced out to the back stock room and opened the boxes with nervous anticipation and then let out a squeal of glee that was probably heard three buildings over when it was exactly what she'd hoped for. Finally! All that hard work had finally paid off! Ah! The sweet taste of victory!

Today's Squishy flavors: Blue, Red, M.F. Grape Judas!

Unfortunately, Turtle was not excited enough to let Apu out of wearing the banana suit today.

Careful. She's bouncy today.

Jamie stumbled into T&C and gazed lovingly at the Squishy-bot in all it's Grape Judas glory.

Then he wiped away a single tear of joy from his eye.

"Thank you Turtle," he said gratefully. "I'll have three Grape Judases and how much for a box of No Doz?"

Turtle looked at Jamie with a slight grin; if that boy didn't check that box by her name today, oh man.

"You're welcome, Jamie. See what happens when you put your confidence in a Wexler? Things get done." Turtle nodded and tried to act like, really, it was no problem. No problem at all. Yeah, right. She gave him the ~~handwavey~~ price of the requested item, but then had to ask. "What's the No Doz for?"

Jamie paid for the drinks and sipped the Grape Judas with a glorious look of rapture on his face.

"The No Doz?" Jamie asked. "Well I've decided that sleep is totally unnecessary. Seven or eight hours of my time lying about with my eyes closed? Please. I have better things to do with my time."

...That boy really, really liked his Grape Judas. Turtle was hoping it was just that it was good and not because Jamie had a...condition, or something.

And her head tilted slightly at his reasons. "You know," she said, frowning thoughtfully, "I'm really torn between whether I completely agree with you one hundred percent or if I think you've lost it..."

Jamie laughed.

Maybe a tad harder than expected.

"You don't know how many times people have told me that," Jamie said finally able to take a GLORIOUS SIP of Grape Judas.

He then took a moment to savor its flavor before continuing.

"But I mean think about it. Average CEO? He's up to all hours of the night doing meetings and getting stuff down while the other schmucks are going to bed early and hitting the snooze button."

Turtle narrowed her eyes at Jamie slightly. As if she needed him to tell her how a CEO's life was.

"True," she said, "however, sleep, if maintained properly, is also a very important key to success. That CEO who's up all hours is about eighty seven point six percent more likely to completely breakdown. Without sleep, the stress will get to you so much faster."

"Well regardless, I'm skipping sleep," Jamie said shaking his head. "Otherwise the world is just going to pass us by and we won't even notice it. Ooo. Do you have any Red Bull on sale?"

Turtle smirked a little, leaning forward on the counter. "How's this? I'll give you 50% off on any sleep-hindering products....No Doze, Red Bull, so on, so forth, if, when you finally do completely spaz out or crash hardcore from the lack of sleep, you have to announce to everyone how utterly awesome I am and how I was right when I said you're just hightailing it for a burnout."

"Ha! Let's make it interesting," Jamie said with much bravado. "Make it 75% off and if I crash or spaz out I'll make your announcement naked at a school assembly."

"Ew, Jamie, no! I do not want your nakedness affiliated with me in any way."

Turtle realized that sounded a little harsher than she meant. "Uh, no offense. I don't actually want anyone's nakedness affiliated with me, so...it's nothing personal."

"Suuuuuuuuure," Jamie said rolling his eyes as he slurped away OH SO HAPPILY on his Grape Judas. "You just don't want to give me the extra twenty five percent. So fine! How about this. I'll make the announcement in drag and risk acorn damage by pimping your store on my radio show.."

"You realize," Turtle said, "that the more ridiculous you make yourself, the less value your message will have. I don't want someone who's going around in drag talking about how awesome I am. The message is stronger if the person saying it is being awesome as well. But the pimpage..." Turtle's eyes shifted slightly as she realized that she'd just used the word 'pimpage'... "is appreciated as an offer. 65% worth."

Jamie weighed the option on the table as he sucked away at his squishy. "Deal. I'll take three boxes of No Doz and a twelve pack of Red Bull."

Turtle nodded. "Deal. You really are one of my best customers, Jamie, I swear. You just make things..." Her nose wrinkled as she rang up the total, "interesting."

"Well at least it keeps you from being bored," Jamie said as he finished off a Squishy and paid Turtle. "Oh and watch out for Doom. He's going to try and rule the world someday."

Jamie was already bouncing on the balls of his feet from the sugar rush.

"Victor von Doom?" Turtle asked, giving Jamie a look. "My little brother and employee?"

"Oh yeah," Jamie said starting on his next Squishy. "Or at least he is as an adult in my world."

Turtle smirked a little. "Well, then, good for him! I would expect someone who would be called my little brother to have such aspirations."

"Don't say I didn't warn you Wexler!" Jamie said with an eyeroll as he headed for the door. "Thanks again for the Grape Judas!"

"Don't forget to vote!" Turtle called out after him.

"All my votes belong to you!" Jamie called back.

I want some Jones now.
