He's there to be talked to!

Annette practically bounced in for lunch today. And... she thought A.J. worked on Wednesday's?

No matter, she was starving. "I want a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate milk shake. Do you have any pie?"

"Of course we have pie," A.J. said with a laugh laugh. "Where do you think you are? And that's quite a lunch, Annette."

"I haven't eaten for like three days," she said, looking over the menu. "Apple pie? I want that for dessert with whipped cream. But not till after my lunch, okay A.J.? And wow, lots of bright colors around here. I like it. What are you working on now?"

"Nothing in particular," A.J. explained with a light smile, scribbling down the order to pass to the kitchen boys (he'd save her from having to eat his attempts to make it, if only 'cause it meant he could stick around and chat while it was prepared). He waggled his fingers a little before picking up the stuff to make her milkshake, "Just letting some of the juices flow, you know? It was a good weekend! I've got way too much energy left over."

Annette gave him a bright smile. "Did you have a good Homecoming? Beauty was beautiful, wasn't she? Did she tell you I took her to the spa beforehand? It was so much fun seeing her experience all these new things. Even down to getting her toes painted."

A.J. knew he wouldn't be able to hold back a grin, but all hopes of containing it were lost at the mention of painted toes. "She mentioned it, yeah," he turned a pretty significant shade of pink as he scooped ice cream into the blender. "They were a nice touch, those toes, so I guess I should thank you for taking her? She did seem to have a good time, didn't she? In fact, I sa--" Of course, this would be the point of the conversation where A.J., relatively unaware of it, was drowned out by the sound of the blender as he mixed the milkshake. He kept talking, as inficated by the seemingly soundless movements of his mouth and the fact that he finished up after he clicked the off button and plunged the diner back into relative quiet, " --again sometime."

And, lo, there was a milkshake in front of Annette, placed proudly on a napkin on the countertop.

Before she could respond to anything he was saying, most of it was drowned out by the sound of the blender while she narrowed her eyes and concentrated on his mouth, seeing if she could read his lips as he spoke. Nope. No can do. Annette just nodded in a wrinkly brow sort of way and determined that he must have been speaking about Beauty and taking her out again.

"No, thanking me is totally unnecessary. I had fun and as you may or may not know," yes, the shade of pink was definitely noticable and made her wonder, "I don't have that many girlfriends do go and do this sort of thing with. I enjoyed myself very much and I know she did as well..." Pausing, she took a good sip of her milkshake and mmmm'ed. "Excellent."

"Keep getting better'n better!" A.J. chuckled a little proudly, straightening. "Helps that my milkshakes seem to be gaining some popularity among certain circles. Got to make a green tea shake the other day which was pretty interesting."

"I'll stick to chocolate, thanks," she said, making a face at a green tea shake. Ick.

"So... you and Beauty seem to be spending a lot of time together. You really like her, uh?" Yes, Annette was being nosey.

Yes, A.J. could tell, and it left him grinning crookedly at Annette with his head tilted slightly in. "Yes," he answered, "I do. She's one of my best friends, and she's a lot of fun."

Annette slurped on her shake for a moment, making bubbly noises, thinking hard.

"Well, that's good. I'm all kinds of happy for you, A.J."

"Good." It was kind of hard not to chuckle at the bubbling noises, but A.J. was also feeling like he should be suspicious of that expression that went with it. "I am, too."

"She's a great girl," Annette said. Her shake was very good. Very interesting. "We compared boobs at Homecoming."

No, A.J. was not laughing; he was just biting his lip like that against a grin because it felt good.

"...I didn't think girls actually really did that."

"The punch talked me into it. The dress she was wearing made her boobs look huge." Sluuuuuuurrp. "Beauty won."

"I..." After a long pause, A.J. decided that he'd just better play this one safe, "...don't feel like this is a conversation that I'm supposed to be commenting on."

No, it wasn't, but Annette was a sneaky sort when she felt like it, and she wanted to witness his reaction to certain things she said. In this case, boobs. She might be a little bored today.

"So, um, I'm sorry about that dance."

Oh, what? Dick pulling the whole macho protective boyfriend bit? A.J. snorted, probably half thinking that it might have actually have been a good idea on Dick's part, but not about ready to admit that. "Don't worry about it. Don't see why you'd apologize for that, anyway."

She shrugged a shoulder. "Just cause it was really no big deal, that dance. But it was probably for the best that Dick broke it up," she said, admitting it easily.

All right, that was done and over with. Annette was great at subject changes.

"Why are you working today? I thought you only worked on Wednesday's?"

A.J. arched a little bit of an eyebrow for a moment, wondering if Annette said that just because she really knew A.J. that well, or if that had anything to do with her own personal feelings toward the matter. He concluded that whatever it was, it made him grin.

"Nope; Sundays and Wednesdays. Still a lot less than I'm used to working, though."

"I can handle my one day a week just fine, considering I've never worked before coming to Fandom. I rather like it. Gives me something to do, I guess." Otherwise she would really be nosey and poke around everywhere and everyone. Which she sort of basically does anyways.

Annette trailed her finger down the moisture on her glass, making circles on the countertop with the beads of water. "A.J.? I'd like to ask you a question and I hope you don't think it's too odd or... read anything more into it than what it is..."

Well, that was an intriguing set-up if A.J.'d ever heard one. He tilted his head at Annette for a moment before glancing behind to see if her order was up yet (it wasn't), and then he folded his arms in front of him to lean on the counter toward her. "What's up, Annette?"
