Turtle & Canary; Thursday [ 10/11 ]

Turtle settled in behind the counter with a small sigh; how was it almost already the middle of October? She'd have to start getting ready for Christmas stuff soon, although she imagined running the usual Christmas things were probably a bit different for a business with a pretty specific and centralized demographic.

Ah, well. She had charts about it to work on. She was content.

Today's Squishy flavors: Peppermint, Hazelnut, Grape Judas.

Jeff wanted to! And knew it.

Which is why he arrived at the counter after class with a grin most brilliant. "There's not someone who's not you here!" he announced. "Excellent."

Turtle looked up from her work and blinked at Jeff for a moment before she was able to work through all that and figure out what he had said. Once it processed, she grinned with a small laugh. "Well, it is Thursday."

"I'm not saying you're generally absent," Jeff explained, "Just that Turtle & Canary appears to have been seriously lacking in your non-absentry lately, it just seems wrong somehow, as if the store's developed a fault."

"Oh, what?" Turtle asked, "you mean like how I'm not here twenty-four seven because I've finally hired in a full weekend staff and I've got a second co-assistant manager now? That's a good thing, Jeff. That mean I've got more time for my sanity and to do things like rescuing you from closets."

"If you put it that way, I suppose it is preferable," Jeff allowed, "I'm just worried we'll upset some sort of--" he grasped around for the word like a flailing polar bear, "--cosmic balance."

Turtle blinked at Jeff for a moment, and then her eyes grew wide. "You don't....you don't think that it's because I'm not working as much that you got locked in the closet, do you?"

"Oh, no, no no no, not at all!" Jeff looked positively aghast. "I'm just saying if I come in on a Tuesday, there is sort of this void, and you know about nature and a vacuum, I don't want you to end up-- squished."

"But...but I do work on Tuesday, Jeff..."

"Well, yes, but I got distracted by Apu." He gestured at the giant banana.

"Well," Turtle said, frowning a little because she wasn't entirely sure that her next statement was perfectly true, "I guess that makes sense. I do come in a lot on Monday to do stuff in the office; does that help?"

Jeff, however, was distracted by other things now. "You know," he said, philosophically, "Looking from this angle, his head looks sort of like a bloke's unmentionables."

He waved at Apu.

It was probably a bad sign when a man in a banana suit gave you one of those nervous, appeasing smile back before very carefully trying to inch out of the line of sight.

Turtle, however, just let out a whimper and her head hit the counter. "Jeff," she whined. "I have to look at that angle all day! I can't handle that after class yesterday."

Even Jeff could interpret a sign like that, which is why his face and hand fell and he turned back around to face Turtle. "Sorry," he said, with every honest bone in his body, "I sort of thought it was intentional."

"Why would I do something like that intentionally?" It was said in a way that expressed how baffled Turtle was that Jeff would ever assume otherwise. And she was also thinking perhaps she needed to have a chat with George Michael about their business deal ending up potentially giving her business an image that she had always striven to avoid.

Jeff shrugged helplessly. "He's been like this for a bit. It might've been a theme."

"No, Jeff," Turtle drew in a deep breath, "definitely not a theme. He's supposed to be advertising the banana stand. And that's all."

Jeff squinted at her with some concern. "Are you certain?" he asked, in a voice that might imply some concern for her health, "You may've just missed a bit."

"Of course I'm certain!" Turtle responded with a slightly arguing tone before fixing a firm glance on Jeff, arms crossed over her chest. "And don't give me that look, Jeff. I'm not the one finding 'some bloke's unmentionables' in banana suits here..."

"Well, to be entirely fair," Jeff said, inching back slightly from the firmness, "It's a banana, there aren't many other visual avenues to take."

"Sometimes, Jeff," Turtle said, with a sigh, "a banana is really just a banana."

Or a guy in a banana suit. Whatever.
