Turtle & Canary; Thursday [ 10/18 ]

It was going to be a very, very busy day at Turtle & Canary today. Turtle had to make sure the store appeared flawless before everyone's parents started pouring into the island. Especially hers.

And she made certain that there was a sale on things like asprins, coffee, pie, and all the other stress related essentials.

You know you want to.

"TURTLE!"

Ah, the habitual greeting cry of the Jeff.

He nearly hit the counter on his dash in, barely catching himself against its front.

"Glue!"

Turtle smiled; it was always so nice to see Jeff, after all. "What kind of glue, Jeff?" she asked, with a tilt of her head and a light grin that she hoped would have at least a partially calming effect. The weekend was just a day away, after all, so Jeff? Probably not in a very good state at the moment; she understood this. Which almost made her feel bad for her teasing tone.

Almost.

"Elmer's glue? Wood glue? Super glue? Glue sticks?"

'Not a good state' was a severe understatement: Jeff looked like he hadn't slept in two days and was just this side of ravaging, all-consuming paranoia. "Glue," he repeated, "Any! All! And sellotape, and bricks, and boards, everything!"

"Jeff," Turtle sighed. "Please don't tell me that you plan to barricade yourself somewhere until the weekend's over..."

"Well," he said, sheepishly, "I sort of was going to barricade myself in my room, but Mary has me on staff at the hotel tomorrow." Jeff shot her a determined grin and a thumbs-up. "That's why I'm barricading myself there instead!"

"Jeff..." With that grin on his face, that flash of a thumbs up, Turtle felt really bad about having to say this. "You...do realize that that's where all the parents are staying right?"

And Jeff deflated almost immediately. "I know," he whimpered, "I'm trying to stay positive."

Turtle winced. Way to mess it up, Wexler, geez! "...Um, sorry...."

"And I've already started!" He gave her the world's most pathetic puppy dog expression. "I can't unbarricade the hotel now, she'll know."

"Does Mary know about this, Jeff?"

"...She saw me." Pause. "Not, you know, saw me saw me, she just sort of... saw."

"...Did she, uh, say anything?"

"...No..."

"Jeff," Turtle drew in a deep breath. "You really just need to keep calm, yeah? Before you know it, it'll all be over, so you just got to try to get through this, yeah?"

"I don't know what to do," Jeff whimpered. "I doubt I'll survive the weekend."

"You have to survive, Jeff!" Turtle whimpered a little. "And you will. You just have to, like...have confidence, in yourself, and stuff."

"Turtle," he went on, choking a little, "If I don't make it through the weekend..."

"Then you're being horribly selfish," Turtle told him a little desperately, "because then where will I be? But, if you really do have doubts, I mean, have you pieced together a will yet? You should never be without a will if you're certain of impending dangers, Jeff, but, really, I think you're going to be fine! You're stronger than this! You spent a week in a closet, Jeff; Parent's Weekend should be nothing!"

"You really think so?" Jeff asked, a little hope blossoming back onto his face.

"Of course I do, Jeff. You know I don't say anything I don't really believe. Too much liability."

Work from 2 pm EST to 11;30 pm EST. UGH.
