The Arms Hotel Lobby, Thursday [11/8]

Mary was wearing five layers of clothes and trying to ignore the fact that her desktop weather gadget was telling her that Las Vegas had a predicted high of 84 degrees today.

Gunther had a lot of fun with the smashed potatoes. They're like mashed potatoes only with a lot more aggression.

Before going to class Rose stopped by the hotel, "Hey."

"Hi Rose! How are you?" asked Mary.

"Never better," she said, and this time she wasn't lying, "You plannin' anything big? Party or some such?"

"Well, nothing at the moment," said Mary. "I've been a bit distracted lately and neglected my party-planning duties."

Rose laughed, "Yeah, I know how that feels like, except for that bash the school held some time ago, I feel like I haven't been to a party in years."

Which was true.

"Well, the holidays are right around the corner. That might be a good excuse to hold a party," said Mary.

"Say the word an' I'll gladly lend a helpin' hand or two. Might even get some of the kids in my class to pitch in. Christmas is a popular holiday, yeah?"

"It's a big one. I used to do the arrangements for the Christmas festivities at my last hotel and we would go all out," said Mary. She was still smiling, but seemed a bit more subdued. Last Christmas was the first time she met her half-sisters, and chances were that she'd never get to see them again.

Rose sensed there was something behind Mary's words and moved on, "Oh, any treats you can recommend in your restaurant? Feelin' a might peckish."

"The chicken pot pie and smashed potatoes are really good. Gunther also makes a really good fish and chips, even if it isn't on the menu," suggested Mary.

"Fish an' chips," Rose said dreamily, "One can never go wrong with fish and chips."

"Good choice," said Mary. She went over to speak to Gunther, then returned. "He'll bring your order out shortly."

"Thanks for that," she looked around again, "What's it like, running a hotel? Bet it gets really busy."

"There's a certain amount of craziness involved. Fortunately, I'm one of those people who thrives on chaos," said Mary.

Rose grinned, "Don't we all?"

SP between 10 and 7 CST due to work.

And my father left me a voicemail to let me know that it's currently 73 in Hawaii where he is. So not fair.

*sends buckets of snow to HI*
