Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Friday

There was an Open sign and a For Employment, Inquire Within sign on the door of Wellspring Arms again today.

This probably meant that Cable was in. Which he was.

He was just dividing his time between the front shop and the as-of-yet unopened shooting range again. Keeping busy, one way or the other.

Ino wandered down after first class and a quick ~~handwavy~~ stop at the Perk for tea. Sipping it, she looked around for Cable. "Cable-san?"

After a few minutes, Cable appeared in the doorway between the hallway and the store, pausing. "Ino."

"Hi, I uh, wanted to ask you about something that came up in class yesterday?" Ino looked at him, "Unless you're busy? I can always go meditate if you are."

"Depends on your definition of 'busy'." It was a rhetorical statement. "Ask away."

"I've been working on controlling my temper, right? And class yesterday brought up how Jedi are supposed to be able to just, like, live life but not feel it. Or something. To push away, and move past any emotion. Master Skywalker said it was sorta like constantly meditating through life and I wanted to know what you thought of that?"

She crossed her arms, "I think it's stupid. What kind of life is it if you don't feel things properly?" Said the girl who lacked temper control.

"Discipline is an asset," Cable replied, strolling into the room. "It keeps you focused. Keeps your eyes-- on the goal. But to repress all emotion seems a little... narrowminded."

Said the world's most emotionally repressed man prone to heavy outbursts of anger when his buttons were pressed in the right locations.

"I don't think I could do it all the time." Not that she ever wanted to try. "What would be the point of living like that? No... passion." Ino took a sip of her tea, "I mean, I get that it would be useful during missions and stuff, but every minute? No way."

"Passion can drive dreams." His expression was, as always, mostly devoid of emotion. Funny, that. "Hopes."

'Can't you see how important this is to me?' 'I see your passion. Passion consumes worlds.'

There were a lot of reasons why Cable paid the past as little attention as he could.

Ino blinked. "Isn't that a good thing though? Nothing ever changes if people don't reach for their dreams." That was what she thought anyway.

"It's a good thing." Cable strode past her, moving towards the desk. Trailing his fingers against the paperwork on top of it. "Depending on what your dreams are..." He glanced back. "Depending on your focus. Extremes are rarely good."

She trailed him over to the desk. "Everything is about balance then? But how can someone decide for themselves if they've gone too far? Everything is relative to personal experience, right? So like, an extreme to me might not be to someone else."

Man, she spent more time thinking here than in all of her classes combined. Ino thought Master Skywalker would be offended by that.

And if Cable knew that, he might be proud. Might. Or amused, anyway.

"What's right is right," he said, sitting down. "When the need is greater than the sin. That's not subjective. It's about helping where you can. Most people find their truth in the middle-- the fringes just tend to be louder."

"But if you've got two people with opposing goals, won't both of them think that they are doing right? Doesn't that make it subjective?" Ino tilted her head, eyeing him curiously.

"It's never wrong if your intent is to help people, Ino," he replied, with the voice of someone who believed that unwaveringly. "When you do whatever you can to stop pain-- to end conflict. To bring peace."

There was a bit of mental flailing. "With, uh, guns?" The store was sorta full of them after all, "How is that peaceful? And what if both sides thought they were doing it all to help?"

"Sometimes with guns." Cable smirked vaguely. "We don't live in a perfect world."

"I know that!" Ino sipped her tea and tried not to look as confused as she felt. "Stomping on your emotions though? Wouldn't that only be useful if everyone did that?" It would also be boring. Geez.

"What matters is letting it feed your hopes but not your fears," he replied, eyeing her contemplatively from his seat. "I don't think stomping helps, in the long run." A little amused.

She made a face, "Rise above then. Or move past. Whatever." Ino noticed his look. "... what?"

"Or rising above. Or moving past. You'll figure it out."

Smiling (or maybe smirking) faintly, Cable got up out of his chair, walking back towards the back of the store. Apparently 'busy' time was here again.

Is it just me, or are social lives like vast deserts interspersed with strangely deep ponds that may or may not contain laser-guided sharks?
