Fandom Post Office, Wednesday (11/21)
Feeling intensely stupid for the confusion and assumptions she had made after meeting an adult A.J. on Monday, and deeply worried about the fact that her roommate had been in the clinic for a frightenly long time, Beauty silently took up her place behind the counter and buried her nose in a book.

Beauty
Re: Beauty
"Brought you a milkshake," he said, in case, you know, she hadn't noticed.
Re: Beauty
"Strange kind of week, isn't it?" she said softly. "I, um...guess I seemed pretty stupid on Sunday. Unless that wasn't...I mean, maybe you don't remember..."
[ooc: Sounds like a good plan to me!]
Re: Beauty
Re: Beauty
"I missed the radio broadcasts over the past few days," she offered, just in case there had been something that A.J. was embarrassed over and hoping she hadn't heard about. Because really, she could imagine plenty of times when there were things she'd just as soon people not get gossip reports about. "Was it...did you have fun? Being from your future and everything?"
Re: Beauty
Well, as far as most of his segues into things like this went, A.J. was feeling this was a pretty good one. "I...kinda woke up with Annette."
Re: Beauty
Then her eyes widened a bit, and hard on the heels of the initial twinge of jealousy came a worry that there'd be trouble for A.J. over that.
"Oh...she was...adult too, I suppose? There isn't going to be another fight, is there? I guess...I mean, you always have had a fondness for Annette..." Beauty couldn't help but wonder if she'd really been twenty years older, whether that might have been her, and her cheeks flushed.
Re: Beauty
Yeah, like he was really more worried about awkwardness between Beauty and Annette here...
Re: Beauty
"I can't exactly hold a person's future against them, can I? And...I mean, it isn't like we're promised to each other or anything. You...I don't have any right to say what you do." She bit at her lip and dropped her gaze toward the floor. "I'm a little jealous. But I'm not going to be stupid over it."

Re: Beauty
She wasn't sure exactly what to say, but it was a wonderful feeling that A.J.'s words created, and Beauty wished not for the first time that the school's housing arrangements allowed for just a little more privacy.
"I was glad to hear that we kept in touch," she finally murmured, glancing up through her hair.
[ooc: Will be on and off SP for a while as I am baking pies. :) ]
Re: Beauty
Biting his lip again against another light grin at her response, A.J. looked over at Beauty in a fashion not dissimilar from the way she was looking over at him. His words had put rather nice thoughts in his own head, too, thoughts that made him think now about pushing back that hair in her head softly, letting his hand linger lightly against her cheek, but...he didn't. He was reluctant, and didn't understand why, because it wasn't very logical. After words like that, it wasn't like she'd refuse or even dislike it. But for now, just smiling lightly at her, still too oddly nervous.
"So was I," he said quietly. "We should try more, though."
Re: Beauty
And then her face fell, as she remembered where it was she'd be going when the day came to leave Fandom. "Oh, I wish we could," she murmured.
Re: Beauty
Even as he asked he felt, for some reason, like he knew, something about the past few days, but the details seemed fuzzy.
Re: Beauty
"Do you remember being older? The things that you knew...or, I guess, will know in future?"
Re: Beauty
Re: Beauty
Or before, for that matter, if the Beast got impatient.
Beauty began toying with her milkshake again, looking down at it rather than at A.J. "This probably isn't the best time or place to tell you the whole story. But there's this...kind of arrangement that I've promised myself to, on account of something that happened to my father, and after I leave here, I don't think I'll be able to ever come back. Or go anyplace else, I suppose."
Re: Beauty
Re: Beauty
Then she scowled and covered her face with her hand. "God, I'm sorry, I sound like such a baby."
Re: Beauty
Re: Beauty
It sounded so ridiculous, standing there in the post office and talking about things better left to legends.
Re: Beauty
He frowned thoughtfully. "So....technically, that's where you should be now, but that didn't happen? And that's why you're always...why you sometimes say you don't know how much longer you'll be here...."
Re: Beauty
She shrugged one shoulder, and tried out a half-hearted smile. "So yes, that's why I say I don't know how long I have. And why I said I wished that there was a way to do more than just write to you."
Re: Beauty
And then he grew quiet at he looked at her, because now he sounded crazy.
Re: Beauty
Her hand tightened around his at the thought that maybe, if she was lucky and very careful how she went about it, she could have something of a real life after all.
Re: Beauty
Re: Beauty
Now she regretted not having told A.J. sooner, simply because somehow, he always managed to find a way to make her feel better.

Re: Beauty
She'd totally intended on making good on that offer, honestly. "Then that's what we'll do, and no changing your mind about things or trying to distract me this time."
