Turtle & Canary; Wednesday [ 11/21 ]

Today couldn't be long enough; as soon as she finished, she'd be heading back to pack up for the short flight back to Wisconsin. She had two tickets. Yup. Jeff was coming with her, first holiday with not only the family, but the whole of Sunset Towers, because someone (*cough*Grace Windsor Wexler*cough*) thought it would be a good idea to have a massive Sunset Towers Thanksgiving get-together. Ugh. Turtle was working on her best defense: a seating arrangement that would hopefully make things significantly less...brutal.

And she was putting Theo Theodorakis as far away from her as possible. Oh. Em. Gee. Married? Yeah, right! She's rather eat her own foot!

Today's Squishy flavors: Pre-Turkey, Pre-Gravy, Grape Judas.

Suggest she put Angela and Jeff next to each other. That would be a great idea!

"TURTLE!"

Somewhere near the end of Turtle's workday, there was a person who wasn't liable to suggest any table settings.

As per usual, Jeff nearly ran over the counter on his way in.

"Are you absolutely certain this is a good idea? You know how I am about airplanes!"

He had only been this way about airplanes since last weekend, but really, it was a valid point.

"It's seriously going to be, like, the shortest flight of your life, Jeff," Turtle assured him, not even looking up from where she was still puzzling over something that worked. Putting Jeff next to Madam Hoo might have been a good idea if her father hadn't been teaching her all that English, which made it a really, really, really bad idea, so, again, she erased her workings. "Barely a stone's throw to get from Virginia to Wisconsin, especially compared to what you're used to...And you'll be with me. I'll make sure everything goes well."

"But what if there's women again?" Jeff argued, "They could be, you know, lurking! It doesn't matter how long a flight is if there's lurkers, they always find you in the end, that's what they do!"

"And if they do anything more than lurking," Turtle pronounced simply, "then I'll kick them. It's still going to be a lot better than a bus, too, Jeff. However, I'll compromise with you and, if it really does go badly, I'll look into maybe a train on the way back, okay?"

"Okay," Jeff said, subdued.

Which lasted for about five seconds. "But what if one of them is aboard the plane and wants to know what kind of beverage I'd like?" he asked, worriedly, "I might forget the entire English language again and accidentally tell them the launch codes for a nuclear terrorist weapon!"

He was starting to pick up on the local time period's paranoias. Slowly.

And that had a simple enough solution.

"Easy," Turtle said, and then set down her pen for a moment to give him a soft smile. "Just let me do all the talking."

He nodded at her.

It was a very nervous nod. "Just don't leave me," Jeff whimpered.

"Jeff," Turtle implored him with the utmost seriousness. "Why would I do that?"

It was a testament to several months of Turtle exposure that Jeff did not, in fact, launch into a laundry list of his own flaws (real and imagined).

Instead he nodded meekly and said "Okay," again.

And, in response, Turtle gave her own, firmer nod. "Good. So just relax, okay? You've already met my parents, so it's not like you have to worry about that, so you can just sit back and enjoy the mass gluttony that goes hand-in-hand with a true American holiday."

It's probably a good assumption that the banana suit is officially gone.

Shortly after first period, Bridge comes in to the store and purchases several cans of light purple paint.

Again, work from noon to six EST.
