Turtle & Canary, Friday 12/7

Sora went around the store decorating whatever he could for Christmas.

Even Apu’s shrine to Ganesh; he wasn’t overly happy about that one.

Still, Sora was trying to be nice and happy, mostly because he knew that Santa was watching, and he didn’t want to make Santa angry.

Santa was frightening when he was angry….

Oh! And he was watching over the droid…baby… thing that he was given in class yesterday. It was safely snuggled into a basket and blanket behind the main counter.

Today’s Squishy Flavors: Santa Red, Sugar Plum, Skeleton Grape Judas

Turtle came in sometime in the afternoon because she wanted to check on the shop. And she was bored. And she wanted a Squishy.

"Whoa," she commented, looking around the place. "Nice work, Sora."

"Thanks!" Sora smiled back. "I felt it needed to be done," he nodded.

With another look around, Turtle gave an approving nod, leaning a little against the counter. "Could use some more Hanukkah touches, though, really."

"Hanukka?" Sora paused as he was jumping up to hang some stars from the ceiling. "What's that?"

Turtle's eyes went wide. "Only the second most important part of this holiday season next to Christmas! Very often...no. Far too often completely ignored by the marketable frenzy that is Christmas. It's a Jewish holiday, that even predates Christmas, because even Jesus celebrated Hanukkah, and, being half-Jewish myself, I'm not just being politically correct here; it's a big part of my culture."

"Oh...." Sora blinked, taken aback by the near tongue lashing. "Uhh.. I'm sorry. We... don't have that where I'm from. I can put stuff up for it," He added quickly wanting to make amends.

Man, Turtle was as scary as Santa!

"It uh... can be Christukkah! Or Hanukmas!" He grinned.

Turtle nodded, approving of the fact that Sora would be willing to allow the mingle holidays. "We should put up some, uh, driedels and menorahs to counteract all the Santa stuff," she decided, and then frowned, slightly. "Okay, so maybe people don't decorate for Hanukkah as much as Christmas because there just isn't as much stuff to do, but still!"

"Oh, okay," he said looking around the store. "If you can get me some I can go around and hang stuff for it, mixed in with the stars that I hung."

Turtle waved a hand dismissively. "Nah. You already did a lot today; I'll just do it tomorrow when I'm in."

"You sure? It's not a problem," he grinned, though the grin faded as there was a horrible sounding wail from behind the counter.

The Droid baby was not happy.

"Oh MAN!"

And here they thought Turtle's eyes were wide before when Sora mentioned not knowing what Hanukkah was. "What the heck was that sound?"

Sora winced and hopped over the counter to grab the baby like droid. "It's my project for Ethics class," he said sheepishly. "I.... really don't know what to do with it!"

Turtle's eyes kept pushing their limits of wideness. "Oh, man. I remember we just had an egg."

Sora looked panicked as he held the droid baby out at arms length. "Uhh... uhh... be quiet little... robot baby, thing.....?? Please?"

Turtle's nose wrinkled a little as she inspected it. "Maybe it's, uh...hungry?"

"I dunno," Sora shrugged. "It's a robot." he paused a moment. "Maybe it needs to be plugged in?"

Turtle never thought she'd have to access her knowledge of robot babies, ever so this was all a very surreal experience for her. "Maybe? Does it have a plug?"

Her head tilted thoughtfully. "Where's Liz? Maybe a robot baby would like to play with a robot dog?"

"Maybe?" Sora said turning it upside down to look for a plug, which made the robot wail more.

"Uh maybe not!" He squeaked and quickly righted it. "Oh man! If this is how a real baby acts I'm so glad I've never met one before!!"

Wincing at the increased wailing, Turtle said, "Let me go find Liz, and see if she'll help at all. You...keep trying, but remember, Sora, if this keeps up? This a store, not a daycare..."

Gryff, stop falling asleep on your breaks! :p
