So a nice, productive day of repressing all of the memories that his conversation with Angelus had stirred up had done nothing for him yesterday.

Which was why Anakin was now in the gym beating the crap out of the punching bags.

Much better.

Really.

Anakin snickered. "Do you think I picked up a lightsaber yesterday? I'm not going to fall for the 'oh my aching bones' performance."

"Eh, you can't blame a guy for trying," Jolee said, smirking. "Just don't be surprised when you really do outclass me. I was always better with the Force than I was with physical combat."

While that was true, he was still purposefully underselling his saber skills. You didn't survive the Shadowlands for twenty years if you didn't know what you were doing with a weapon.

"Let's get this over with."

Anakin reached for his lightsaber, switched it on, and grinned. "Age before beauty," he taunted, gesturing with his free hand.

Jolee reached into his robes, pulled out his lightsaber (which had apparently been hidden near his spleen all this time), and switched it on.

He closed his eyes for a moment and buffed his abilities with the Force, using several defensive techniques to bring his reflexes closer to what he was guessing Anakin's level was.

He rushed forward, his speed enhanced by the Force, attacking with a swift strike to Anakin's left side.

Anakin countered the attack quickly, a happy light glowing in his eyes, then aimed his lightsaber for Jolee's hands.

He'd been trained not to mess around.

Jolee hopped quickly to one side and brought his saber back to parry the blow. Just before contact was made, he swung a kick at the back of Anakin's knee. After all, if Anakin wasn't going to mess around, Jolee wasn't going to play nice.

Anakin dropped to the ground to the floor and used the motion as a chance to aim a swipe at Jolee's ankles.

Yes, he was making the older guy hop around a lot. No one had ever taught him to fight fair, either.

Jolee flipped over Anakin, reaching a hand out to let off a strong Force push, both hoping to smack Anakin on the ground and (thanks to some guy Jolee had never heard of named Newton) propel himself back a bit to get some distance.

Anakin stayed on the ground with an annoyed grunt. It had been a while since anyone had done that to him: Luke hadn't quite integrated all aspects of the Force into his fighting style.

If Anakin wasn't going to get up on his own, that wasn't going to stop Jolee from attacking from a distance. He held a hand out, letting loose with a wave of telekinetic force. It would either get slide him across the floor - which would be funny - or get his butt up and on the offensive.

Anakin, as always, refused to look stupid whenever possible.

He rocked up to his feet and started towards Jolee again, lightsaber aimed at his neck.

Jolee took the simple route and ducked with a grunt, swinging his lightsaber up towards Anakin's elbow.

Anakin caught the blow firmly with his own lightsaber, smiling despite himself at the crackle the two weapons made when they connected. He pushed back with his upper body strength, trying to make the older Jedi step back first.

Jolee knew full well that Anakin was younger and stronger and that meant that he wasn't going to last long locked up like this.

So he cheated with the Force again, attempting to push Anakin's hands back.

Anakin smirked at him and pushed back with the Force.

Hard.

Jolee survived only because he was very good at the Force Resistance technique that, well, allowed him to resist Force attacks. It was cheap, yes, and he was proud of it. He had spent a lot of time perfecting it.

But still, with Anakin's comparative strength he was moving backwards. The only way he saw out of this was distraction, so he tried to stomp on Anakin's foot.

Anakin frowned. That sort of technique had fallen out of fashion centuries before.

Well, the Force Resistance. Stomping on someone's foot was just tacky in any generation.

"Hey," he said, aiming a kick at Jolee's stomach.

Jolee took the kick and rolled with it, flipping back to his feet and throwing his saber in a glowy spin of death.

Which was a technical term back in the Old Republic Era.

Anakin reached into the Force and stopped the lightsaber in mid-rotation and smiled. "Glowy spin of death?"

"We like descriptive language in my time," Jolee said with a shrug. He took a deep breath, concentrated, and tried to pull both his and Anakin's lightsabers toward himself.

Anakin let Jolee's lightsaber go with almost terminal velocity, but clung hard to his own.

Jolee tapped into the Force to give himself the speed to catch his saber. If he were any less capable in his abilities, he probably would have cut off a finger or two. Or he would have if he wasn't also using his Energy Resistance technique.

"Not bad at all. You're very strong in the Force," Jolee said. "But I'll bet I still know a few things you don't."

Jolee held a hand out and smirked as he reached into the Force to attack with a classic Stasis technique. If the Jedi no longer taught this move they were idiots.

Anakin could feel what was happening, but he couldn't come up with a way to counter it.

"What the hell?" he complained as he froze to the ground.

He was wondering if it would be possible to kick Obi-Wan's non-corporeal ass.

"It'll wear off in about ten seconds, don't worry," Jolee said, using the opportunity to try to pull the lightsaber from Anakin's hand again as he strode forward. "What's really fun is when you get good enough to freeze a whole room of people with that technique."

Anakin's scowl deepened as his lightsaber moved away from him.

Mentally he was still scrabbling to figure out a way to counter it.

Oh, and cursing Obi-Wan. Hell of a multitasker, that Anakin.
