Turtle & Canary; Saturday [ 01/05 ]

Turtle came in, opened the shop, and settled behind the counter with a sense of relaxed excitement. She loved the beginning of a new semester; there was a whole new crop of students to start swindling to get to know and cater to and it was just really, really exciting.

Now, if only she could ensure that they'd all be frequently coming in.

Accompanying the glittery "Now Hiring*" sign was one proclaiming special discounts for new students. The sign didn't say exactly what the special discounts were going to be; Turtle intended to base them on a fairly individual basis as a way of gaging what the new students might want or expect.

Today's Squishy flavors: Grape Judas, Peppermint, CherryBerry Blast

Turtle & Canary is open!

* = see OOC note.

Saturday, late in the morning, Amber woke up and realized she didn't have a few essentials that she wished she would have remembered to pack. Like socks.

Wanting to check out the town, she came upon Turtle & Canary and noticed the help wanted sign immediately. It warranted futher checking into.

Entering, Amber looked around curiously before she headed to the counter, and seeing the girl behind, she said as pleasantly as she could, "Hi!" Yep, just Hi!

Amber shook her hand back, declaring, "I'm Amber Atkins! And I need socks. I also noticed the help wanted sign out front. Maybe I could speak to the manager?"

Looking back, Amber checked out the aisels that seemed to hold all sorts of merchandise. Back at Turtle, she smiled, surprised. "Women in managerial positions. It's such a nice change," said Amber who lived in a trailer park. "I am interested in a job and this looks so much nicer than a morgue oh my gosh. No dead people!"

Here, Amber grew a touch nervous. "I have a class on Wednesday, would that be a problem? And Miss Wexler, what would my duties entail, exactly?"

After his handwavily pleasant early morning run with Troy and several reads-through of the FH handbook, Sky actually found himself bored. Without S.P.D. training, he had no idea what to do with himself, and Sky Tate and boredom did not mix well. So he decided to wander into town, dressed in much less conspicuous civilian attire today after his incognito cowboy hat disguise got him a lot of strange looks. Sky noticed when he approached Turtle & Canary that his stomach was growling a little, so he walked inside a little uncertainly, the discounts sign immediately catching his eye. He walked up to the counter, cleared his throat, and addressed Turtle.

"Excuse me, miss... exactly what kind of discounts do new students get?" he inquired politely.

"Sounds good. Thanks," said Sky with a little smile. "And for unintentionally reminding me that I should buy school supplies, too." He'd forgotten that not everything would be provided for him here like it was at the Academy... that would take some getting used to. He resisted the compulsive urge to salute Turtle before handwavily doing his shopping, and walking back up to pay. He couldn't help stare curiously at the Squishy machine, however, having never seen one before. "Squishy? What is that?" he asked Turtle.

"Hmm..." Sky hesitated a little. It sounded a bit unhealthy, and he liked to think he ate right. Most of the time, anyway. But he'd also been told before he left for Fandom to be adventrous. Try new things. And Squishys were certainly new things. One couldn't hurt anything, could it? "Sure, I'll try one. Grape, please."

Sky couldn't suppress a smile at Bob the SquishyBot, accepting the proffered cup and downing it all in one go. Oh. A tinging, cold sweetness in his mouth! And the taste, which Sky rather ashamedly could only describe as "Grapey" in the same way his friend Bridge would say "buttery". Unexpected, but not entirely unpleasant.

"Wow. I... kinda like it," said Sky. "I'll take a whole one, please, miss. The... medium size." Medium was good, he assured himself. It wasn't a large. And he'd brush his teeth after so much sugar.

Juli stepped into the shop, not entirely certain if they'd be able to help her but asking was better than simply retaining her ignorance. At the very least, if help was unable to be found, then she'd inquire about who possibly could.

"Good morning," she greeted the girl, "I was wondering if you could help me?"

"A piano." Juli said simply, "Due to my sudden arrival here, mine is back home. And unavailable for shipping." If only because she couldn't connect to the U.M.N. to tell anyone where she was. "And please, call me Dr. Mizrahi."

"A baby grand piano please, Miss Turtle." Juli said, quite sure her apartment wouldn't be able to handle a grand piano. She did, however, have the space for a smaller one. Juli had made certain of that. "And special order is perfectly acceptable."

Juli couldn't help a small smile at the Turtle's enthusiasm as she neatly wrote out the requested information, making sure that it was clear that she was in MCA #-2, and not just regular #2. She wasn't fond of preventable mistakes. "That'd be perfect," she assured the girl, "I'm not much of one for lifting myself. Any idea, off the top of your head, how long it might take to come in?"
