Joanna was in the ticket booth, smoking a cigarette and paging through a glossy fashion magazine. There was a large sign hammered into the ground outside that read:

As instructed by Adam, Lucas found his way to the mini golf course. If he wanted to be able to afford to do much of anything, he'd need a paying job. Hopefully a well paying job.

"Miss Stayton?" he asked, stopping in front of the ticket booth.

Joanna was used to people knowing who she was, so she wasn't surprised to hear her name in an unfamiliar voice. "Tickets are half price if you're accompanied by a new student," she said lazily, flipping another page. "Go grab some friends and come back."

She tapped her cigarette ashes into a crystal tumbler sitting on the counter and took a drag.

Lucas was surprised by her brush-off, but he was the one looking for a job, so he decided to try again.

"I was actually interested in the 'now hiring' part of your sign," he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

Joanna glanced up and quirked an eyebrow. "Fill this out," she commanded, sliding a one page application and a pen towards the boy.

"What's your name?"

"Lucas Scott," he replied, picking up the pen and looking over the application. "What's your starting pay here?"

Joanna leaned forward so she could get a better look at Lucas. "We pay very well, Mr. Scott," she replied. "Twice the minimum wage. It just wouldn't do to have employees that can afford to dress adequately." She had totally just made that. Joanna had no clue what they paid. That's why she had accountants.

"Why would I want you to work for me?"

"Because I have experience with mini golf courses," he'd helped Haley build that course on the roof, after all. "And I've worked as a mechanic in my uncle's shop and I'm sure some of that experience would carry over to go kart repair." He watched her for any reaction.

Billy looked at the sign and smirked at Kara. "I swear the half price thing is not why I invited you."

"Are you really missing an eye, or are going for some," Joanna waved her hand about, "strange mystique."

She rang up two half price tickets and slide them across the counter.

"I really am missing an eye." he nodded. "Though I suppose my choice to wear the patch instead of sunglasses might be a cry for attention."

"It's a crying shame if nothing else," she said. "Putters and balls are to your right." She pointed over to the rows of multicolored gold balls and putters.

On her third try, she nailed it.

"That's how it's done," she replied, retrieving her ball.

"Just kinda?" Kara asked, leading the way to the third obstacle. "Here I was hoping for incredibly cute, at the very least." She gave him a playful pout. "Thankfully the course isn't over yet."
