Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand, Fri. 2/8

Sky got to work right on time, in spite of another near-sleepless night. Now on top of everything else swimming around in his head, he was worried about Teddy after talking to Chad, and because of the fact that he hadn't seen his little big brother in over a week. Sky really didn't feel like dressing in The Suit today- or ever again- but he also didn't want Mr. Manager to get upset with him (especially because, in the midst of everything, he'd forgotten his promise to pass out flyers during the week), so on the stupid thing was.

He was grumpy and cranky and wasted no time shooing Eddie and his girlfriend off the counter with the broom when he got there, then settled in to read a book and think some more.

Bluth's is open.

Bridge wanders by in the afternoon, once again with a Grape Judas Squishy for Sky. He's got a Red one for himself, this time. "Hey, dude."

"Hey, buddy," said Sky gloomily. He felt much better than this morning, but always hated his friends seeing him in the suit. "Oh, a Squishy. Thanks."

...Yeah, the "buddy" thing is still a little weird. Bridge gives Sky a confused look as he slides it across the counter. "Your enthusiasm is overwhelming."

Sky gratefully picked up the Squishy and took a sip of sweet, sugary happiness.

"Sorry. I've got a lot on my mind," he replied.

"Like whether you'd rather have uncontrollable hair or uncontrollable arms?" Bridge asks curiously. What? It's *one* of the things on his mind.

"Well, no, not exactly," said Sky, giving Bridge a strange look. "But since you asked, given the choice I'd rather have the hair."

"I agree," Bridge says seriously, one hand reaching up to run a hand through his own rather uncontrollable hair. "So what *is* on your mind, then?"

"Lots," said Sky. He suddenly remembered his little breakdown last week, and wondered if this was really the best place to talk. Especially considering that he was dressed like a giant banana. "Dru. Troy. Wanting to go home more than almost anything right now. Feeling like a freak of nature and, you know, the fact that we're talking about human weapons like us in class."

Bridge's face fell a little bit at the "wanting to go home" bit. He *likes* it here, after all, and hell, likes having *Sky* here even if it was awkward at first, and... "You know, we're not the only freaks here," not even the only genetically engineered freaks, he doesn't add. "That's one of the nice things about this place."

Sky sighed. He knew that. So why did he still feel like he was all alone? He also didn't miss Bridge's face falling. Taking another sip of Grape Judas to buy him time to answer, he finally said,

"I know we're not the only ones, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I guess it's because I don't know any of them. And that doesn't change the fact that I played right into the hands of whoever ordered that done to our parents, either." He snorted derisively. "Look at me. Mr. Perfect Cadet. An eager little human weapon. I'm... angry at myself for that. I feel like I was used, too. I'm having a hard time getting over that."

"You're not even alone in that, dude. I mean, I've been in SPD just about as long as you have," Bridge points out.

Sky sighed again. He hated conversations like this, and he didn't really know why.

"So why can't I get over it, then?" The question was more directed toward himself than Bridge. "At any rate, as angry as I am at SPD, I'd still much rather be there than here. I hate this place..."

And that last statement hits Bridge like a slap in the face. He takes a step back, his gaze dropping to the ground. Fandom's been *home* for more than two years now, and for all the less-than-fun stuff that's happened, he really does love the island.

"I should go," he says, turning away.

"...What?" Sky asked, surprised by this reaction. "What did I do?"

"I love it here, Sky. It's as much home to me as Newtech. And for Z? I can't say for sure, but I think maybe this place is *more* home than there ever was, for her." And now it's his turn to sigh. "Look, I'll just... I'll talk to you later, okay?" he says, with one last glance backwards before heading back to the dorms.

Sky watched Bridge go, his mouth slightly open, before he turned and punched the side of the banana stand as hard as he could in anger. He didn't care how much it hurt.

"Sorry, then. Sorry for not liking a place where nothing good ever happens to me," he mumbled bitterly, picking up his book and opening it to a random page, biting back the sudden urge to start crying again.

Way to alienate yourself, Sky. Good job!
