Caritas, Saturday evening

D'Argo got to work early. He beat Tino in.

Tino looked really surprised about this, but he didn't say anything. Probably because he thought D'Argo would leave if he did and he didn't want a third week in a row.

[Around, but may be slow.]

Mary stopped by the bar after work, feeling the need to shake up her Saturday routine just a bit.

"Club soda with lime, please," said Mary. "How have you been? I haven't seen you for a while."

"My boyfriend is pretty much living with me these days, so I don't go out as often," said Mary. "I did make a trip out to Las Vegas to take care of some business, though."

This could work out to be a horrible habit, she knew, but Adah decided to stop in for a little bit of a drink before heading back to the dorms following her clinic shift. After a whole day of observing little micro-organisms in contained little atmospheres, she was feeling tempted to observe similar behaviors in multi-organism creatures (because she felt, considering a quick glance, that humans wouldn't be a very applicable, all-encompassing distinction), and compare. She scribbled the cheapest, most piss-poor wine you have on a napkin and passed it over for a bartender, and immediately went to digging out her notebook for work.

Adah didn't seem to be paying much attention; everything was going into the never-easy task of finding balance on a stool while getting her notebook situated, opened, and then angled in a way that would satisfy her often delicate attention to positions. She frowned thoughtfully at the data collected throughout the day before turning a page; this time conveniently to the delivery of her drink and Adah flipped the napkin over to make use of the other side, writing on it again and sliding it forward with her money. She still didn't look up from her notebook, now open to a new page that she started making a rough chart on.

"Thanks," the napkin read, and then continued to ask, simply, what species he was, as Adah was figuring that this particular observance would go into the non-human observance field, but she might as well get a specific category if possible.

Oh, but Adah was paying attention; it just didn't look like she was, curved and hunched over her notebook with her pen moving rapidly as it set her research premises up. The position was simply more natural to her today, as if the work of the day had left her stuck in that mold of the researcher and her body, finding it comfortable (although it wouldn't tomorrow) refusing to be bothered to move into any other potential shape. To his question, then, she gave her head a shake, as she scribbled his answer down, guessing on the spelling, into a square before shifting up and labeling the column as species. His row, it appeared, had already been marked with bartender a few columns down, although that column remained unnamed.

She still hadn't touched her wine.

It had been some time since G'Kar had anything to drink. Space exploration didn't offer up many drink options. An eyeridge raised in surprise as he recognized the mayor working behind the bar.

"D'Argo, isn't it? If memory serves me correctly. You work here and serve as the town mayor?"

Mary didn't mean to stare, but she was caught off-guard by the newcomer's appearance.

G'Kar spotted the woman looking at him. He smiled. "Good evening," he offered politely.

Remembering her manners, Mary smiled back. "Good evening. Are you new in town? I don't believe I've seen you before and I'm sure I would have remembered you."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] gkar-lastkhari.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I'm fairly new. I'm still getting to around to meeting people."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, now you've met another one," she said, extending her hand. "I'm Mary Connell. It's good to meet you."

"G'Kar," he shook the offered hand. "Pleased to meet you."

"What brings you to Fandom?" asked Mary. Not that she was nosy, but as a businesswoman, she liked knowing who was doing what around town.

He sighed. "I believe it was an accident. My ship encounterd a strange storm and the next thing I knew, I was here."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Wow," said Mary. "Will you be staying long, then?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] gkar-lastkhari.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "I believe I'll be here for some time. It was my intent to explore more of the universe, but I find that there is a large portion of it represented right here. What more could one ask for?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Mary chuckled. "I'm not one for exploring. I like to settle in once place and set up a home. In fact, I'd barely even left the state before coming here to settle in Fandom."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] gkar-lastkhari.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I've traveled a fair bit." He thought for a moment. "I wasn't so much exploring the universe to see it, but rather, hope to understand it more. And in so doing, hopefully understand more of myself."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Mary nodded as she listened. "What will you be doing in Fandom, besides exploring and understanding yourself better?" she asked with a smile.

"I've bought part of the store, Turtle & Canary. I'm going to help Turtle run it. Aside from that, I haven't decided yet." He smiled. "How long have you been on the island?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
"You're going into business with Turtle? That's great! She is absolutely wonderful to work with," said Mary. "I've been here since last May. I own and manage the hotel."

"Yes, she is a very nice girl. The hotel? I stayed there for a few days when I first arrived. It's very nice."

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Thanks. I must have missed you when you were staying there. I had some business that took me home for a little while," said Mary.

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] gkar-lastkhari.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps I'll return and visit you sometime?"

Re: The Bar

[identity profile] montecito-east.livejournal.com 2008-02-10 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Definitely! I work every Monday, and then on Saturdays we do an afternoon tea," said Mary. "You should stop by for that."

"I think I shall. Tea sounds excellent."
