Luke's Diner; Sunday [ 02/10 ]

A.J. was a bit more with it and awares than he had been during his previous shifts, but that didn't necessarily prevent him from not doing much else besides sketching out more possible (and likely to fail) invention ideas in his sketchbook. He'd occasionally take a small break from the sketching and counter jockeying to try to plow through a little more of that book.

...Very little.

Today's special appeared to be a cubist rendering of the Leaning Tower of Pizza. It was a pun!

That's what he's there for! Or, well, kind of.

Ino... Ino realized after her lesson with Liir that she hadn't seen A.J. in far, far too long. So, for the second day in a row, she wandered down to the diner.

"Please tell me everything is going good with you." Yes, that was her hello.

A.J. blinked. "Uhhh....everything is going good with me?" He offered, and gave Ino a small smile, because it was true and because he wanted to look encouraging, having the feeling that it wasn't so true for Ino.

"Good," Ino said, sounding relieved, "because that seems to be a rarity with who I hang out with these days." And, you know, herself.

And, apparently, the people A.J. hung around with these days, too. His light grin shifted into a worried slight of a frown. "Everything okay, Ino?"

"It's been a bad few weeks," Ino admitted, leaning against the counter, "for me and for other people." She smiled at him, "I'm glad you're doing good though."

"Want me to get you a milkshake?" A.J. offered. "On the house? It's not much, but it's what little I can offer to maybe at least get this week started a little better?"

She shook her head, smiling. "Nah, no milkshake today," Ino considered things for a moment, "you could give me a hug though. Hugs are nice."

Ino didn't need to say another word before A.J. set his sketchbook aside, hopped over the counter, and did just that. "Hugs I can do, too."

Her arms went around him, hugging him back, and she laughed a little. "And you can't run out of hugs either," she pointed out, "there's always more."

"Well," A.J. said, squeezing a little bit, "barring any freak, limb-losing accidents, anyway..."

Ino laughed. "You'd better not lose any limbs," she poked him, "I'd be most unhappy with you."

"I think I'd be pretty unhappy with myself," A.J. admitted with a smirk. "I mean, can't make milkshakes without arms and hands and stuff, although I could start a new series of paintings done with only by paintbrush held between my teeth."

She grinned. "You could market them with a sob story about how you lost your limbs but wanted to be an artist so much that you didn't let the limblessness stop you. I bet they'd sell."

"They totally would," A.J. smirked, plopping down on one of the stools and nodding toward the one next to it for Ino to come join him. "Man, that's what's messed up about art. You won't make it unless you're terribly disfigured or already dead."

She was up on the stool in a flash, amused. "And yet, you keep on drawing. That's kinda impressive."

"Like I said," A.J. grinned, "I could have no limbs and I'd still keep doing it. I wouldn't be able to stop even if I wanted to."

"Yeah," Ino said, smiling, "that is impressive."

She was perfectly content to hear him ramble if it meant not having to cover her own mistakes in the past few weeks. Ino wondered if she'd be so lucky.

"I think it'd be more impressive if I were actually any good at it," A.J. mused lightly with a shrug, and then tilted his head thoughtfully at Ino. "So not even a milkshake, huh? Just here for the excellent company? Almost everyone at least gets a milkshake."

"I was here yesterday too," not that she'd bought a milkshake but... "I mean, I'll buy a milkshake if you really want me too, but really." Ino glanced down. "Just... checking up on you. Hadn't seen you for a while."

"It's fine," A.J. grinned. "I was just giving you a hard time, anyway. What've you been up to that's had you so busy?"

Erm. Well. "Ummm... lots of things. Cable-san starting teaching me guns, I've been training Liir how to fight, Kabuto broke up with me because I did something really stupid, training Michael and Lana at the shop, joining the Girls With Guns Club, trying to fix things so they work out right relationship-wise, studying... you know. Life?"

She wondered if he'd notice what she'd slipped in there.

Erm. Well. A.J. gave a small, embarrassed sort of smile. How come it seemed that whenever things seemed to be going well for him, it was far from the same for everyone else around him. "Well, that's good," he said. "Um, well, not the...breaking up and needing to work relationship stuff out, but everything else in there sounded good, and there was a lot more of the other stuff than that stuff..."

Okay, so, yeah, I'm getting lazy on actually drawing stuff for his specials. La.
