Turtle and Canary: Monday

Jamie is behind the counter with his head on his chest and snoring loudly while Apu is debating whether or not he should just sneak out of T&C while he still can.

"Ja--" Turtle came into the store to catch up on things and maybe hoping to catch Jamie doing something like bowling again, but this was much, much worse. She narrowed her eyes slightly, glowering to see if he'd wake up on his own volition of if she'd have to take matters into her own hands.

She almost hoped he didn't wake up, just so she could.

And Turtle jumped about a foot. Okay, well, maybe half a foot, but it was a bit of a start all the same. "Jamie! You can't do that!" She gestured, grandly, toward the other sleeping Jamie.

Turtle sighed, heavily, and ruefully shook her head. "Jamie, Jamie, Jamie," she bemoaned. "Do you know what it looks like to a customer who walks into a store and sees someone sleeping behind the counter? Do you? Whatever it is, Jamie, it's not good!"

"Why can't you have the sleeping you sleep in the break room and put another non-sleeping you on counter duty, even if just for appearances sake?"

Turtle narrowed her eyes at Jamie. "Give me one of those," she muttered, reaching out a hand to give hi the chance to, in fact, give it to her before she would just try to reach over and wrench it out of his hand.

"Don't worry," Turtle told him. "I'm not going to throw it."

Instead, what she was going to do was lean over the counter and start pounding the can on it, shouting and yelling in a way that if the sleeping Jamie remained sleeping, she'd think that maybe he was deaf. "OI! Heeeeeeeeeeeey! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!"

"No sleeping behind the counter!" Turtle told the Jamies on the floor, after shaking her head to clear past the fact that hitting the floor had caused replication. "There's enough of you that you can put an awake one behind the counter and put the sleeping ones where no one can see them. I don't condone laziness in my store, and I'm not going to let people think I do!"

Turtle had to shake her head over the absorbtion, but she didn't let it deter her. "Okay. Good. Go...take a lunch or something; if the other you is too busy with something in the aisles, Apu can cover, and I'll be doing some work over in the office, anyway, so...."

Turtle settled a firm look on Jamie, as if trying to find signs that he didn't mean it, before promptly presenting her pinky to make him live up to his words.

Turtle kept her pinky around Jamie's, her eyes still steadily, seriously on him. "Or," she added, prompting him, "behind the counter at all..."

Which was actually more than what she was bargaining for, so, really, Turtle couldn't avoid grinning a little at that and giving her head a firm nod as she shook on the pinky swear. "Deal. Good."

Turtle just sighed, the gained grin fading quickly with her sagging shoulders. She rubbed her forehead with her pinky-swear released hand. "Any markdowns," she said, "that need to come from dented, damaged goods, are going to be worked out of your paycheck, though, I"m just letting you know that right here and now."

Sora came into the store, carrying a large crate and hoping to find Turtle and there she was!

"Hey Turtle!" He grinned. "I've got something for the store!"

Turtle both winced and felt a slight spike of excitement at those words. After the whole thing with Jamie, she could see things either taking a quick tumble downhill, or a nice climb up it. She turned toward Sora, blinked at the crate, and then hurried to help him with it. "Hey, Sora," she said with a smile. "What's in here? Something really good?" She hoped so. But, most of all, she hoped it wasn't anything pink.

Nope, not pink!

He continued to smile brightly as he gladly put down the heavy crate and opened the lid to reveal a bunch of star shaped fruit (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v735/k1tsune-chan/Oh%20my%20Sorikuuu/?action=view&current=Paopu_plushies_by_ImageC0rrupt3d.jpg). "These are paopu fruit,' he explained with a grin. "They're from my home and tradition says that if you share them with someone your destinies will forever be linked."

"Paopu fruit?" Turtle asked, her head tilting, as she reached in and picked out out of the shape. Instantly, she grinned, because the star shape was really just way too cool. And then she dropped her jaw a bit. "Wait a minute! I think I remember you telling me about these ages ago! With the whole linked destinies and everything..." She arched an eyebrow, turning toward Sora with another tilt of her head. "Brought these in with Valentine's Day in mind?"

Sora grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, I thought they might sell well or something."

"That's an excellent idea, Sora!" Turtle beamed. She looked like she almost wanted to hug him, but she was a professional, here. "What a great, neat alternative. And it isn't even pink! Thank you! You'll definitely get a nice cut of the profits it might bring in, too. Also, the timing? Is impeccable. I do radio tonight, so that'll be a great chance to get the word out before Thursday."

There was a sudden bouncing, clapping her hands. "Eeeee, yaaaay!"

Sora grinned back with a faint blush, happy that he'd done so well. "Great! And I can get more from my mom if you think we need it!"

He was not cheering, much.

"So...so what do they taste like, anyway?" Turtle asked, eying one of the fruits from various different angles and giving it a tentative sniff. "Is it okay to eat one even if you're not sharing it, or is that, like, bad luck, or something?"

Re: Bug Jamie

[identity profile] key-of-heart.livejournal.com 2008-02-12 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Uhh," Sora had to think about it. "Kinda like a mango mixed with a pineapple?"

He really had no clue, but it was good! "Oh yeah, it totally is, I used to eat them all the time."

"Oooh, sounds good. You don't mind...?" Turtle ducked her head and looked at Sora with slightly pleading eyes, in silent asking if she could have one.

"Sure!" Sora grinned and found a good one for her. "The more plushie looking they are, the better."
