Luke's Diner; Sunday [ 02/17 ]

Ah, well. It had to happen eventually, right? Back to the real word after a ~~oh-so-handwavily~~ romantically successful and high-cuddle infused Valentine's Past Few Days. The kitchen boys were starting to get annoyed with A.J. spending so much time in the kitchen but he got so lonely up there by himself behind the counter.

But, after he attempted to help with making a pie to disastrous results (the kind that seemed almost inexplicable if you tried to think of the hows and whys), he resolutely just returned to his station and settled his boredom with lots and lots of sketching.

The special's board was rather geometric, today, of various different sized squares spread around it, some fitting into other, intercrossing, like a sharply disturbed and distorted checkerboard.

Luke's is open.

River looked cheerful as she stopped by the diner and smiled at A.J. "I managed," she said.

A.J. blinked at River. "Mana--" And then he blinked again, a grin slowly building on his face. "Oh. Yeah. Managed. I noticed! Thank you. Wasn't too trying on you, was it? I know it was probably a lot to ask, and all..." A.J. couldn't help chuckling and teasing. Chuckling and teasing helped him from thinking a little too much about River's 'mission' and having himself go places that he really probably shouldn't.

"Was a pleasure." She giggled, amused by both his comments and his thoughts. "And you took advantage of having the room to yourselves?"

A.J.'s head ducked in a firm nod. "Yup. Was very, very....very, very nice." The dopey grin on his face rather effectively matched the mess of just cuddles and sleeping and reading and tickling and kisses....He sighed, happily.

"Good." River gave him a warm smile back. "Just wanted to make sure."

"I'll have to do something nice for you sometime soon," A.J. decided with a nod. "For helping me out. Could I start with getting you something? Maybe a milkshake, on the house?"

"Milkshake is good," River said. "And no thanks needed." She grinned and repeated: "Was a pleasure."

A.J. grinned a bit at that; it wasn't fair of her to keep mention it and giving him thoughts that were making his face go a little red. "Any, uh, particular flavor?"

Totally going to just focus on milkshakes now. Yup...He cleared his throat.

"Vanilla." River decided A.J. had done enough blushing and decided to change the subject. "New drawings?"

"Nice and easy," A.J. grinned. "Good choice." He shrugged as he started to get the milkshake together. "And, yeah, but nothing special or anything. Just sketches."

"Good start. Anything for Beauty?" River tilted her head watching him prepare the milkshake.

So much for A.J. having blushed enough. His face went pink again as he scooped some ice cream. "Ahhh, no...no, not really. It's just sketchy stuff, really, nothing very good..."

"Can I see?" If he thought about it she would. And River didn't seem to care about blushing today.

One of the key elements to a civilized society is the ability to mod your service, you know.

*brushes dust off the poor boy*
