Luke's Diner; Wednesday [ 02/20 ]

The design on the specials board today was a little darker than usual today, with lots of streaks of blues and purples. A.J. felt it was reflective of his mood, which wasn't very good in the slightest, thoughtful and annoyed. He tried working on some concept designs for his project to distract himself, but they weren't going very well. Things like the pencil lead breaking or soup spilling all over his sketchbook kept happening, so eventually, he just gave up, threw the sketchbook across the dinner in a fit, and then just spent the rest of the time sulking.

Luke's is open.

It might, but it would find little company in Romeo this afternoon. His entire face was a smile as he leaned over the counter.

"Good day, I come for a sandwich and a collaboration."

"Roast beef on white for the sandwich," Romeo said, then followed A.J.'s gaze. "I see one of our teammates in the collaboration has met an untimely end."

"Poor soup, to so anger you," Romeo suggested. "And aye, we ought to have some idea what we are doing before we start wasting yet more paper."

He shifted on his stool. "What was your fantasy world about?"

Romeo laughed a little at the confusion he had caused. "I sometimes forget not everyone lives inside my head," he admitted, by way of explanation and apology. "I meant not to ask quite so personal a question."

He thought a little about what A.J. had described. "You must love your girlfriend much, to want to make a world for her," he ventured. "Was she a witch, or a warrior, or what was her part?"

Romeo bit back his thought, that perhaps Charlie loved the girlfriend. "But I am talking to you, not to Charlie," he said, and closed his eyes. "So, a heroine, a labyrinth, a witch, and ... what are gryphons?"

[OOC: heading home soonish, will be on after 7.]

Romeo received it like someone who had spent about as much time thinking about mythical creatures as A.J. "Hrrm," he said, taking a moment to think (and bite into the omgmodded sandwich). "Must the story have these beasts? I write, but more about love, or, if there is no love to write about, adventure, fighting, things of that sort."

A little, maybe, but...

"No more so than I am, claiming I can write about love," Romeo shrugged. He pulled a out a notebook. "So there is a heroine, an' she must escape a labyrinth and save someone from an evil witch using not her brawn, but her brains."

"Mayhap," he ventured, "her lover, thinking her captured by the witch, is trying to fight his way in from the outside, and must defeat the witch's troop of guards."

Romeo raised an eyebrow right back. "I thought you said she had abandoned it."

"Then ignore everything I said," Romeo said sheepishly. "All right, then, a fresh start."

He glanced about the diner for inspiration. "... which I will think of before I finish my sandwich."

Absinthe would be the easiest thing, but if he wanted that, he suspected he would have to go to Caritas, if not Pixie Dust.

No, he'd have to manage this sober.

"A chocolate shake?" he asked hopefully. "Even if the sugar doesn't help, it will taste good."

"A good one?" Romero asked lightly. "I should hate to be poisoned by a bad milkshake."

"Of course you may," Romeo said agreeably. "If you do not praise yourself, who will do it for you? False modesty is a waste of time."

He held out his hand. "Give me the shake so I may judge?"

"Clearly, you have demonstrated such," Romeo told him, and took a sip.

His eyes all but rolled back in his head in joy.

"Have you considered," he wanted to know, once he had swallowed, "starting a faith based around these? I would convert."

"I was indeed forewarned," Romeo said, staring into space. "And now I think I shall need to work milkshakes into the story I write for you. Whenever I figure out what that is."

"Delicious things, even," Romeo said, finishing his shake in record time. "I'll come find you again when a plot has revealed itself to me. Or I am in 502, if you want to find me."
