Groovy Tunes; Friday [ 04/04 ]

Chad leaned (carefully) on the counter, with a pile of pop CDs at one elbow, a pack of cards at the other, and a row of kittens in front of him in rapt attention. One might wonder how he managed to get their attention so well, but it might have something to do with the back that he'd put one of their little catnip mouse toys on his head. They weren't paying attention to Chad, then, but, instead, the drug-inducing item on his head. But it gave the illusion that they were listening to him, and that was good enough for Chad.

He was lecturing them, in English, because he didn't know if Melody's kittens knew Japanese like (he thought) Prince Oscar Pedro did. "This," he said, holding up one of the CDs. "This is crappy pop music. If we want to chase around and destroy CDs of crappy pop music, it's okay. We can do that. This," he set the CD down and picked up one of the Pocket Monster cards, "are cards. Apparently, some of them can be worth money. Also, they're cute, see? Well. Some of them. Anyway, it's not okay to chew on them and play with them, like it is crappy pop music. We can't ruin these. It's not good. Got it?"

There were going to be at this all day, really.

Today's Mix: Meow Mix

Groovy Tunes is open!

There was a fairy pixie zipping along the aisles, trailing an iPod (conveniently sprinkled with pixie dust) behind her. New releases. New releases. Why didn't anything sound good, today? Hmph.

Tink sailed over to him. Oh! Hello there. Music store! Good place! She meant to come by sooner. Did he have any recommendations? Were people who worked in music stores good at that sort of thing? She was bored with everything on her iPod and she was bored with all the clothes in her store and she was bored. But she had an award! She should bring it, some time!

Yes! Yes, she did, he was ever so clever. And very tall. Was he very tall? All humans were gargantuan, but he seemed particularly so. But! More importantly! Music!

She dug her wand out of her cleavage and danced her iPod forward. iPod! Music! And then frowned. All of it sucked! Boo, hiss, boring music! Also she didn't get a Nano yet, and she wanted one. Did they sell those here?

But yes! Music, please!

Tink would possibly be more clear if she didn't keep getting distracted. Very small brain, though.

Tink sailed her iPod over to Chad cheerfully. There was a fair selection of 80s tracks, mostly synthpop, and a large amount of house music, and a smattering of old-school funk. Really, if it made Tink want to shake her pint-sized bootay, it got on her iPod.

Speaking of her pint-sized bootay, did he realize there were vicious tigers in here? Someone might want to take care of that. Tink swooped a little higher, watching the beasts nervously.

Tink glared at the nasty, vicious killers and narrowed her eyes. If they tried anything, she was going to --

Oh! Right! Music! J-pop? She'd never really gotten into it, no. Was it good?

She was so very sad that most of her music-sharing communities had gone dead. Where was she supposed to get mash-ups and remixes and pirated tracks now?

And did he realize there were psychopathic carnivores watching her every move?

Tink listened intently. Hey, she actually took music pretty seriously. After he finished talking, she considered for a few seconds, and then zipped off to the rows of music.

Five minutes later she was back, a floating stack of CDs in front of her. Most of them were some of the more interesting-sounding J-Pop selections from his list, with a couple of other albums she'd been meaning to pick up.

And right on top of the stack was ABBA, which had gotten there entirely by accident because it wasn't hers and she never, ever got weepy listening to Fernando and if he told anyone about this she would hurt him.

And did he really just work with dangerous panthers? Did he have scars on his ankles? Someone should notify animal control.

Tink beamed. Her wand! Here, she would dig it out of her cleavage again. See? She could do all sorts of interesting things. She could lift things up and zip them around, and --

That tiger was going to eat her! Did he see it? She was going to hide behind the cash register here and use this CD as a shield. Back! Back! She'd smack the cougar in the face with it if she had to! Grrrrrr!

Creed? Seriously?

Tink zoomed the CD up into the air, spun it around a few times, and then slammed it into the far wall. Smash!

Wow. That was far more satisfying than she had anticipated. And she owed him for calling off the vicious lion-beast, that was ever so kind.

Oooooh, thank you! She aimed to please. And really. Creed.

So how much did she owe him? She brought money. Real actual cash money. Because sometimes people came into her shop and offered her shiny rocks and goats and seriously, people, money. Ugh.

Wonderful! She had cash tucked in the little sleeve-thing for her iPod, wasn't it chic? So if he wanted to just round off to the nearest dollar, that would be ever so helpful, as she really couldn't lug loose change around in that thing. Did they have one of those little penny jars, perhaps, for people who were low on cash because they were less fabulous than her?
