Luke's Diner, April 11 (Friday)

Lacey was buzzing around with a sense of accomplishment today, thanks to the brand-new cork expanse of bulletin board posted in a conspicuous spot near the front door with a neatly hand-lettered placard reading "Community Bulletin Board" at the top of it. And no shortage of pushpins, both the standard multicolored plain kind and an assortment of fancier ones.

The nice three-tier dessert display dish she'd ordered had arrived, too, and she'd meticulously set out an arrangement of pie, cinnamon rolls, fruit tarts, cherry Nanaimo bars, and maple mousse. Hey, just because she was on this side of the border now didn't mean she was going to assimilate her dessert options.

As she busied herself around the place, straightening napkin dispensers that really didn't need to be straightened for the fifty-seventh time and contemplating what kind of new curtains to put up, she was devoting some thought to a new kind of sandwich. Something unique.

[OOC: Info on the bulletin board coming up shortly . . . and if you'll excuse me I'm going to take a moment to weep for the impending end of my canon. AUUUUUUUUUGH.]

Mike felt a need to get out of his apartment as his mun was trying to shake off the emo so he stopped by the diner. "Things are looking a little different around here," he commented as he sat down.

"It's a good thing. This place looks good, and the desserts look really, really nice," said Mike. "Of course, I don't remember seeing a pretty girl like you around either. You definitely brighten up the place."

"I hope not. I'd rather not have the competition," he said, grinning. "Mike Cannon. I'm a teacher at the school. It's nice to meet you, Lacey."

"I think I might need a minute," said Mike after returning the handshake. "Unless you can recommend something, of course."

"Then I'll go with a cheeseburger," said Mike. "So, how long have you been in Fandom?"

"Since the semester started in January," replied Mike. "It's been a really nice place, even if it is a lot quieter than where I came from."

"I'm from Las Vegas, originally," said Mike. "Spent about eight years in Boston while I was attending MIT, but after that I went back home to Vegas and stayed there until I got let go from my last job."

"It was definitely a little weird, especially when my students seemed to come from all different decades, even different worlds," replied Mike. "Fortunately, there was one pleasant surprise. I lost touch with a very good friend when she moved out of Vegas a year ago, and it turned out that she's the manager of the Arms Hotel. It was helpful to have someone who could help me out... or help me laugh off some of the stranger things that happen in Fandom."

"Yup, different worlds, and different dimensions, and stuff like that," said Mike. "It takes a little while to get used to the idea."

Mike chuckled. "Is Davis a friend of yours from back home?" he asked.

"Half the police force?" asked Mike. "Sounds like an interesting guy."

"Must be kind of nice, though. Las Vegas can get really, really crazy sometimes. I kind of liked the slower pace, once I got used to living in Fandom," said Mike.

"Then you'll like it here," said Mike. "Just be on the look-out for anything weird, like statues that come out of nowhere."

"You'll get a handle on what's normal weird and freaky weird in a while," Mike reassured her.

"Well, nothing weird's happened in about..." he checked his watch, "48 hours, so I think you're still okay."

"You'll be fine. I'm sure of that," said Mike.

"I think I'll go with a cheeseburger, fries, and a chocolate milkshake," said Mike, setting down his menu. "Can't go wrong with those."

"No, it's hard to get a burger wrong." Unless you were Gunther.

"I'm teaching a class on computers for beginners right now," said Mike. "I might mix things up a little bit over the summer, though. I've done a lot of other things. Professional singer, professional poker player, valet..."

"Yes, pretty much," replied Mike. "Although the singer thing did take me out on tour for a couple of months," he clarified with a chuckle. "You see, my Auntie Gladys invited me up on stage with her when she was performing in Vegas and had me join her back-up singers. Then, in the middle of the concert she asked me if I'd like to join her on tour. The crowd was cheering me on, and the hotel I worked for was shutting down for a massive renovation, so I said yes. It wasn't until I got on that tour bus that I realized I took some other guy's job and his buddies were pissed."
