Melody spent much of her shift looking at her laptop screen, apparently lost in what passed for thought.

Valerie, the Pussycat bassist, had emailed her to let her know Josie's record was finally finished, and the record company was sending her on tour to promote it in just a few weeks. And they wanted to know if Melody would be the drummer on that tour.

It wouldn't be a Pussycats gig; it would be a Josie McCoy gig with Alan M. opening, and Mel would be even more in the background than usual. And leaving the record store and the house and her friends in Fandom would suck. Not to mention the issues of going on tour with three adolescent cats.

But at the same time, she always knew that when Josie or Valerie wanted her again, she would come running. It was what friends were for. And she missed the band like she'd miss her drumsticks, or her hair, or tofu dogs.

It was a conundrum, but Groovy Tunes was open, and yes, the broody blonde behind the counter really was Melody.
