Groovy Tunes; Monday [ 04/28 ]

For the most part, it would seem like just another average day at Groovy Tunes. Chad was leaning (carefully) forward on the counter, flipping through some magazines of the fashion and/or music variety. Good music drifted softly from the speakers, and, occasionally, a kitten would come skittering by in pursuit of a ball of fluff.

And then a long, feline yelp would rise up from somewhere in the store.

"Orden," Chad would call out, not even glancing up. "Very, very little strength when playing with the kitties, Orden."

"Sorry, Papa!"

It would be quiet again for another long moment, until the sound welled up again.

"Ord--"

"SORRY!"

Yup. Just another day.

Today's mix: Kid's Stuff

And Orden, should he be around and not chasing the cats.

Sparky wandered by the store, then decided to go in and listen to music, while she was wandering. She'd catch up with Daddy and Jake eventually.

She squealed when she saw the cats. "Kitties!"

Half the cats jumped and scurried off at the sound of another squeal.

The other half (this included the hairless one and...that other one whose name Chad could never remember) eagerly headed toward the source of the squeal, hoping that either food or pets resulted.

Someone who was not a cat was also intrigued by the squeal. Orden hurried out to see if there was someone who would play with the kitties with him.

"Hi! You have to be careful with the kitties; no squeezing them too hard!"

It was, after all, a concern for a kid with superstrength more often than not.

"Okay! I'll be ultra super special fantastic careful!" Sparky promised, crossing her heart. "Are they yours? They're so cute! What's your name? I'm Sparky Winchester, I'm eight. Do you live here?"

Yes, her mother is an investigative reporter. She inherited that as well as the pyromania.

"No," Orden said. "I don't live here, I live on a planet where Dad is Emperor and Papa's a concubine; this is where Papa works right now. And the one without hair is his, all the others are Miss Melody's, 'cause she owns the place, and my names Orden; I think Sparky Winchester is a really cool name and I'm eight, tooooooo!"

Yes. This was all said in one very big, very excited breath.

"What's a con-cu-bine?" Sparky asked, caught by the new word. "And ooo, Orden, that's different, and your daddy is really an Emperor? For real for real? Ooooo. And yay, thank you! My real name is Mariah Roberta McGee-Winchester but my daddy calls me Sparky 'cause I like fire. A lot."

One of the kitties came up and rubbed against her ankles, and she squeaked with glee.

Orden chuckled at all the squeaking. "You're really squeaky," he observed. "I think I like Sparky better than...all those other names. That name's almost bigger than that cat's name." He pointed to the hairless one. "That's Prince Oscar Pedro Neko-kun the Third. I have a kitty back home who's Prince Oscar Pedro Neko-kun the Seventh, so yeah. And yup, my Daddy's really an Emperor, and I'm gonna be Emperor one day, too! But I don't really know what a concubine in; Daddy just tells me it's Papa's special job."

He shrugged.

"Mommy says I'll outgrow being squeaky but then Daddy tickles her and says no I won't so we'll see I guess and wow, a prince kitty?" She reached down to pet him and ruffle his fur, sitting down to beam up at Orden. "Oooo, so you're a prince too? Or is there another word for that? And yay, special jobs! My daddy has a special job," she added, nodding hard.

"I like the squeaky," Orden told her with a big smile before nodding his head and puffing out his chest. "And yup! I'm a prince! That makes me pretty special. And daddies with special jobs are pretty special, too. So, I'm gonna be an emperor when I get bigger; what are you gonna be?"

"Mmmmm, I'm not sure." She giggled as he puffed out his chest, and the kitten jumped over her hands and wound through her fingers. "Maybe a Hunter, like my daddy? He fights monsters and ghosts and bad things. I can burn them up! He said so!" Sparky nodded eagerly. "Or, or, maybe a reporter like mommy, or maybe a chef. Chocolate is yummy." She tilted her head. "Do you have a crown? And a sword? And a pony?"

"Maybe," Orden suggested, "you could be a reporter chef monster-burner! That would be really cool." His head bobbed with the most sincere conviction that she could so totally do it, too. "And I do have a crown, and a pony, but they're at home. I don't have a sword yet because Papa doesn't like weapons and Daddy says I'm too young."

Which got a really big pout.

"Awwww, no fairs," Sparky clearly sympathized with this. "Daddy says I can't help with the hunts until I can drive the Impala or I'm taller than him. And I'm never gonna be taller, he's tall, just not as tall as Uncle Sammy, and your daddy over there is tall. Wow." She paused for breath and then said, "What's your pony's name?"

"I know, Papa's really tall and I can be tall, too, but....I'm not supposed to show people that..." Orden bit his lip, looking toward where Papa was still flipping through his magazines, wondering he would notice. He wanted to show Sparky...

"And my pony's name is Vincente Theodore Roosevelt McDonald."

Orden clearly adopted his papa's penchant for names.

"He's green!"

And his dad's color scheme.

"Ooo. You can make yourself tall?" Okay, now Sparky was staring at him in fascination. "Really, truly? Really? And that is an awesome name! Theodore Roosevelt was a president, I just don't 'member which one. And your pony is *green*? Is he a goblin pony? Or a pouka? I saw a pouka once. From far away." And then her mom made her go back to the car. Darnit. "I can do stuff *too*. But not get tall."

"He's a Skrull pony," Orden explained with a nod. "And what sort of things can you do? Maybe..."

He gave another look over his shoulder before leaning in to whisper to Sparky, "I'll show you how I can get tall if you show me something cool, too, okay?"

"Oooo. Skrulllll." New word she had to look up.

She wasn't 'sposed to, not inside, but, but, maybe... "If you have a waste-paper basket," Sparky whispered back, nodding hard, "I can show you! Just a little, 'cause I'm not 'sposed to inside. It's an outside thing. I can make a fire!"

"Ooooooooooooooh."

Fire? Was definitely cool.

"Okay, I'm not supposed to do my thing at all, either, not in public, so...if we go over there," he pointed somewhere behind one of the shelves, "Papa won't see us, and I'll go get a waste-paper basket and meet you there, kay?"

"Okay!"

Yes, she is Dean "It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time" Winchester's daughter.

Sparky skipped over behind the shelves, giggling, and waited for Orden, the coolest boy Ever.

After easily convincing his Papa that the waste-paper basket was because the kitties wanted to play with all the paper inside and he promised to pick up after them, Orden came hurrying back to the designated spot.

"Okay, Sparky!" he whispered. "I got it, I got it! Who goes first?"

"Mmmm, you first, 'cause I gotta warm up?" Sparky said hopefully. "I can do it but I don't want to mess it up. Okay?"

"Okay," Orden nodded and then, with another quick glance around, said, "Mine's really easy anyway..."

At which point he shapeshifted to make himself taller, but not so tall that he'd give them away in their hiding spot.

"See?"

"OOooooooo!" Sparky squealed again, probably loud enough to be heard away from their hiding spot. "Neato! Okay, okay, my turn. Watch me!"

She lifted her fingers, her tongue sticking out of her mouth as she concentrated, and pointed at the wastepaper basket.

FWOOOSH! A flame gouted up, consuming most of the paper in the basket before settling down to dancing flames.

...

"AWESOME!"

Because, really, what else did you say to that?

Sparky giggles, and waved at the flames, saying, "Shhh, shh! No getting caught!" The fire had burned so quick and so hot that it was almost all out, fortunately. "I can do that 'cause my mommy can do that. Can your daddy get *even taller*?"

"Daddy can, yeah," Orden said. "Papa can, too, but not always, only at certain times. I don't know why, but I think it's cause Papa's just human." Orden shrugged. Talking about his fathers wasn't as interesting when he was talking to a girl who made things explode.

His head bobbed approvingly as he thought about that fact. "You're probably one of the coolest girls ever, Sparky."

"Really?" Sparker asked, kinda thrilled. Okay, he was a boy, but he was a really cool alien boy who could grow. And? He had a pony! "Cooler than a princess, maybe?" She blinked. "Do you know princesses?"

"I know some," Orden shrugged again, wrinkling her nose. "But they're mostly all boring. You're definitely better than a princess, but..."

Having done something like this before, last time he was here (and in this store, too!, although it looked different then), Orden intentionally trailed off to make Sparky get all curious and stuff.

"What what what?" Sparky's curiosity was definitely going to get her in trouble someday. Being better than a princess was awesome. "What else?"

"You know you can be a princess," Orden informed her, very importantly. "You just gotta have a prince for a boyfriend, is all."

"Ah!" Sparky's eyes got big, and she tilted her head. "That's too easy! Really? Noooooo." She laughed. "Really?"

"Uh-huh," Orden nodded. "That's all it takes. Good thing you know a prince now, too, right?"

"YAAAAAAY!" Sparky squealed, abandoning her indoor voice. "So do we hug if you're my boyfriend?" She wasn't real sure about this. She gave him a very serious look. "I should probably give you a kiss if you're my boyfriend. Just not an icky one." If princes rescued princesses with kisses, and princesses rescued princes with kisses, it totally made sense.

"A kiss is definitely acceptable," Orden nodded, but, before Sparky could even think about giving him a kiss, he had to be the gentleman and give her the kiss first, leaning in and giving her a big mwah! sort of kiss on her cheek.

'Cause she was his girlfriend, and was probably the coolest girlfriend ever, even cooler than his last one on Fandom, because she'd been kind of mean. Sparky was way nicer.

Sparky giggled even more, and before she could lose her nerve, gave him a smacking kiss on the cheek back. She gulped and then gave him a big hug. "Thank you for being my boyfriend, Orden! You're very very nice."

Because you can!

Mostly SPish today thanks to braindeadness and workishness.
