Wellspring Arms & Meditation Centre, Wednesday

It occurred to her that acting fine--just fine thanks--during the rest of the week was severely undermined by the fact that she insisted on working here. It made Wellspring Arms more than a wee bit awkward, really, and her mood was dark as she went around the store and fussed with the plants.

And, you know, tried not to think too hard. Stupid Cable. Stupid baby.

Whatever.

Wellspring Arms is Open.

And depending on who you are she'll be civil.

"You'll have to excuse the new pot."

The baby was upstairs; but Cable wasn't going to keep from his usual checks. "The old one had a minor accident..."

She rolled her eyes. Like, whatever. "I'm sure it did," Ino said. Minor accident? "It'll survive."

Which, really, was the important part.

Not for Wade's lack of trying.

"Good," Cable replied, casting Ino one more look before heading towards the security panel.

Ino bit her lip on about a million questions, a million accusations, and stared blankly at one of her plants. She didn't want to talk to him though. Didn't want to hear meaningless platitudes or just as meaningless explanations.

Explanations had shit to do with her feelings after all.

She darted a lightning quick glance at him, then back at her plants. She didn't want to talk, but there was at least one thing that might even be important and it wasn't...

Did he know? She wondered, wishing that Master Skywalker wasn't leaving for the summer, and that she could raise walls around her mind. Did he know about Caliban?

Ino shook her head, and deliberately went back to checking up on her plants. Whatever, Cable-san.

He was halfway into going through the sequence-- ever-familiar (even if on someone else, again) accusations sliding through-past his mind as they always did, and then he paused, glancing slightly over his shoulder. "Caliban?" Cable asked. It'd been a long time since--

Well, that was a lie. He'd been there, in Alaska.

Yeah, those walls around her mind were sounding like a better and better idea all the time. Seriously. A little bit of privacy would be nice, she thought at him, knowing he'd pick it up. Piss. Off. Stay out of her head.

But she was going to take that as 'he didn't know'. Which, you know, was bad. And she should probably tell him because it was important and...

"Caliban's dead," she said quietly, back to him. And she'd said goodbye for him, even if only in her head because Deadpool-san was a total ass.

A nod.

Well, there were always-- casualties (will you remember me, the perennial question) but.

They were still casualties. "He was a good man in a fight," Cable said, looking straight at Ino (and that had, it seemed, been horrible timing on her part) without avoidance. "Thank you."

No need to ask for what the thanks was for.

"Thought it was important," she said, with a half-shrug and it was, it was, because the people who matter to you deserve to know it, deserve to know stupid things like pictures on your wall, and the fact that you'd mentioned them to her, who was after all, just a girl who liked to ask questions, nobody very important in the scheme of things even if that hurt her to know that--that was important.

She was secure in that much, at least. Important. Okay.

"It was." Another nod, then-- for men and women he'd burried in shallow graves-- one more for a long line of names-- and for Ino. "I appreciate it," Cable finished, simply.

And that was all there had to be said.

"Yeah," she said quietly, narrowing her focus until plant right in front of her was the only thing that she really really saw, because Ino didn't want to see anything else right that moment.

"I'm sure you do."

And there wasn't anything else she wanted to say to him right now. Nothing that wouldn't end in yelling for her, then tears, and Ino didn't want to hear--didn't want to know from his own mouth how little she mattered.

His actions had been enough to prove that. Okay. Okay. She was ignoring him now. Okay. She could do that.

"I do," Cable repeated, carefully, then turned around, finishing the sequence.

A couple moments later, Tether came bounding down the stairs. He still found Ino's feet endlessly fascinating.

Lana stopped in, feeling bad about missing last week's session.

Ino looked up, not really in the mood to deal with peo...

"Lana?" Blinking. Huh? What?

"Sorry I missed last week?" Lana said uncertainly. "I came by the week before but you were gone."

"Well," Ino said dubiously. "To be honest I probably wouldn't have heard you last week even if you had come. But, uh, I wasn't sure you were coming back at all, really."

Considering the fight they'd had.

"Me neither," Lana admitted. "But just because we don't agree about things doesn't mean you're not a good teacher. Or friend."

"Unless you'd rather not be either."

It was a bit funny, the way that made her feel better. After the last two weeks though, she'd take what she could get.

"We don't agree about things," she said after a long moment of just looking at Lana. "But that doesn't mean I won't try to be a good teacher, or that I'd want to stop being a friend."

"That's what I hoped you'd say," Lana said, looking relieved.

She glanced down a little. Glad, and--and it was nice to feel useful.

When she looked up again, Ino quirked a grin at Lana, clasping her hands behind her back. "So then," she said, "tell me what you've been up to?"

"Uh..." Lana made a face. "Sleeping with another guy I don't really know? Though at least I knew this one a little bit."

"Oh really?" Ino leaned against the counter, looking interested. "If you don't mind me asking, um, why?"

You’ll need permission, yes. Do you have it?

Around for the next two hours, and then aroundish but slow due to work.
