J,GoB [Thursday Afternoon]

He'd only *meant* to go into town long enough to pick up doughnuts from J,GoB. But on his way to the bakery, he'd been struck with inspiration regarding his latest project and the problem regarding power consumption, so instead he'd taken a detour to the junkyard and then Turtle & Canary to pick up a few parts, and *then* he'd headed to J,GoB. Which is why he's now sitting at a table with a box of doughnuts, his ever-present project sketchbook, and assorted mechanical parts that he's spread haphazardly across the table. He's either ignoring or totally oblivious to the annoyed looks from the bakery staff who seem to think this isn't the most appropriate of places to be working on such things. Knowing Bridge, it's probably the latter.

John had taken his daughter out to the park and was stopping at J,GoB to pick up some pastries to take home.

Absorbed as he is in his project, there are certain things that are just ingrained in Bridge's personality, like acknowledging the presence of a superior officer or other authority figure, like a teacher. Even if he wasn't technically a student anymore.

"Hello, sir!" Bridge says with a wave.

John looked over when he was hailed. "Hello, Bridge," he said, juggling baby and pastries.

"That's Grace?" he says, grinning like a dork because it's kind of hard not to considering, well, cute baby. "She's grown! Which, uh, you know since you live with her and all."

"I do," John said with a smile. "And babies tend to do that."

"And soon she'll be walking and talking and all that fun stuff- I mean, not that she's not fun already, I'm sure she is, I don't mean to imply otherwise, really, and I really need to learn how to stop talking before I embarrass myself and..." a flailing hand sends a pile of screws and a few sheets of looseleaf flying off the table. "Uh. Scuse me a minute, I'm just going to..." he scrambles out of his seat, rapidly picking up the mess and then standing stiffly beside the table.

It's a mark of how not-here Xander's been all week that he's halfway to the counter before he realizes he's just walked past a table full of Bridge. Shaking his head, he turns back. "Hey."

"Hey," Bridge says, pushing his glasses up to the top of his head. "Uh. I know I said I'd be right back, but. Uh. Got distracted?" he says sheepishly.

It takes a couple of blinks before Xander manages an equally sheepish smile. "I might've forgot you went out for doughnuts."

"...You forgot about something doughnut-related?" and now Bridge is giving Xander a suspicious look. "Who are you and what have you done with my boyfriend?"

"Hey, I remembered I wanted doughnuts!" Xander waves a hand at their surroundings. "I just forgot they were supposed to be on their way to me."

"It wasn't that long, was it?" Bridge asks. "I mean, only a couple, of um. Hours. And you *can* sit down you know."

Xander moves aside two weejahoosits and a thingamjig before sitting down across from Bridge. "Whaddya know, I can."

"Oh! Can I see that, actually? I need to check the connector type," he asks, gesturing to the thingamajig.

Xander passes it over, glad that Bridge actually pointed, because if he'd asked for it by name, Xander's pretty sure he wouldn't have had a clue. "I'm gonna say... type 2. Or possibly type N."

"I'm going to need more wire," Bridge says with a sigh, turning it over in his hands. "Which I can get later, because right now there's a you, and there's doughnuts."

Xander blinks at the table. "...Oh yeah. There are." Behind the weejahoosit.

"Which are for sharing. With you. Since that was their original purpose except I sort of got distracted because I was halfway here when I thought, well, if I swapped out the power source for something a little bigger, that'd solve the problem I was having with the energy distribution, only then I'd need to find a larger casing for the power source, and a smaller circuit board, otherwise the whole *thing* will just be larger, and that just defeats the purpose, you know?"

"I hate when that happens," Xander answers solemnly, reaching for a doughnut.

"It's very frustrating," Bridge agrees, entirely serious. "Luckily, I think I've worked it out- mostly. I still have to make a few adjustments with regards to the increase in weight, but that's just a minor issue."

"And when you're done it'll do... what? Besides dispense Butterfinger BB's."

"Actually," Bridge says. "It's a wormhole detector, of sorts. I'm hoping, anyway."

"You think there's a lot of those around here?" Xander picks at his doughnut, not actually eating it. "Besides the ones that show up and spit out SPD employees?"

"Could b..." Bridge trails off, because forgetting Bridge had already left on a doughnut run was one thing, but *not eating* a doughnut? Definitely not typical. He slides his chair around the table until he's sitting next to Xander. "Hey," he says quietly.

"...Hi?" Xander looks over at him quizzically.
