Turtle & Canary; Saturday [ 05/10 ]

Turtle came into the store early today. Obnoxiously early, probably, if you asked Apu, but like Turtle ever really cared what Apu thought. But there was a lot to do today, as the first day of a new semester! For one thing, she had parrots to order and then she had to make a large, glittery sign to help advertise to reel the fresh meat in.

She bounced behind the counter in what would either be a very successful sale day or kind of a bust because everyone was so tired from doing all that meeting yesterday to do much else. She'd be happy either way.

"Good morning, Turtle!" G'Kar called from the doorway. "Isn't it a glorious morning!"

Holy crap, he was happier than even she was. It stopped Turtle for a moment with a blink, but then she gave back a bright, high-wattage smile. "It sure is! There are new people, G'Kar!"

It was known to happen on occasion. "So I have heard," he grinned. "I like the sign. Good way to establish new customers."

"Thanks!" Turtle said with a nod. "I thought so, too. I try to do a special sale like this with every semester. And then cross my fingers that the free Squishy they get is the Grape Judas, because, I don't know what it is about it, but, I swear, it just kicks up, like, addictive little signals in some people's brains...."

"Sounds like a sound marketing strategy to me." He glanced over at the SquishyBot and the available flavors. No meat. Oh well. "It does seem popular," he agreed, "but I have not found it much to my liking. Perhaps I'm just a bit strange."

"I haven't actually tried it," Turtle admitted with an embarrassed sort of smile. "I'm too worried about falling victim to the Grape Judas pull. I'm sticking with just Red today, because the other one? Is just as it sounds. Way too many mangoes."

He smirked. "Also a wise plan. You don't want to become addicted to your own product." He glanced back at the bot again. "I may have a Red myself today." He turned back and grinned. "Today should prove to be most interesting. I'm hoping to meet plenty of new people."

"I hope so, too!" Turtle bounced a little. "I got to meet a few of them at the picnic yesterday, mostly my new roommate and my little sister! Not my actual little sister, I don't have one of those, but my fake one. She's kind of under my wing, you know, 'cause I'm a seasoned Fandom veteran. You remember Victor, right, worked Sundays? He was one of my sibs, too, so I have high hopes for Kaylee, too. Oh! And if you run into some guy named Wes? Push hair products on him. I worked that angle a bit yesterday, and I think we might have something there."

"This sibling thing sounds excellent. I can imagine that people would become easily lost at Fandom. And not just due to the landscape," he grinned.

"Wes." G'Kar made a mental note of the name. "I'll keep that in mind. Speaking of Victor, that brings up the point of the store being a little short staffed. Apu could probably handle things on his own, but perhaps we should bring in a few new people?"

Turtle's eyes rolled up a little to go through the mental tally of employees in her head.

"Oh, yeah, you're right! I mean, we lost...Victor on Sunday and Sulley on Tuesdays, right? And you've been taking that shift? If we want to keep weekend, and just hire someone in for that Tuesday, I think that could work nicely..."

"Yes, I've been doing Tuesdays," he agreed. "I could keep with that. I don't mind. But we probably should get someone for Sundays. And also," he thought for a moment, "we should check to see if our current employees want to stay on. Just in case they get a hectic semester or some such."
