Turtle & Canary; Tuesday 5/13

G'Kar arrived bright and early. Apu was surprised to see him at such an early hour. He was still hoping to meet a few of the new people so he'd dug out Turtle's sign from Saturday. After a few changes, he propped it in the window.

He then setup a special display right in front of the door. Marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. How convenient!

Settling in behind the counter, he pulled out his journal and began writing while he waited for new customers.

Lion-o went for a walk through the town with Snarf today. Snarf probably could have passed as a pet dog, except for the fact that he was walking upright on two legs and lecturing Lion-o about how the boy needed to make some friends.

When Lion-o saw the sign in the window, he stopped. "Look, Snarf! I should get some stuff for the campfire. Let's check it out."

G'Kar looked up from his writing when the young boy walked in. "Hello," he said warmly. "Anything I can help you with?"

Lion-o gave G'kar a big smile. "You're not human either!" he said.

Snarf cleared his throat and nudged the boy. "Lion-o! That's not very polite."

He quickly glanced down at himself. "No, I am not it would appear." He grinned at the boy. "I am a Narn. I come from a planet very far from here."

"That's quite all right," he told the other one. "I received quite a few stares when I arrived, so it no longer bothers me. Welcome to Fandom," he bowed slightly, "I am G'Kar."

"I am Lion-o, son of the Lord of the Thundercats from the planet Thundera. This is Snarf, my faithful squire," he said. "Some of the other kids stare at me, too."

"Squire?" asked Snarf, crossing his arms. "More like babysitter."

"Pleased to meet you, Lion-O, son of the Lord of the Thundercats." He bowed again a little. To G'Kar, the declaration of his title meant that Lion-O was some sort of nobility. "Ah yes, the staring can be a bit much at first. But they will soon get over it and see you for who you really are on the inside, not just what they see on the outside."

He smirked a little at 'babysitter'. Odds were, Snarf was probably more accurate in his description, but he wasn't going to say that out loud. "And I am pleased to meet you as well, Snarf."

"I hope so," said Lion-o. Snarf cleared his throat again, and Lion-o remembered why they came in to begin with. "Oh! I need some campfire supplies. What do you recommend?"

"Well, it would seem from the radio broadcasts that you would do well with marshmallows, some chocolate and graham crackers. To make suhmores. Whatever those are."

"Suhmores," said Lion-o, carefully repeating the word. "That sounds good. Let's get some of that, Snarf!"

Snarf was already grabbing the marshmallows, chocolate and crackers, along with sodas, sandwich rolls, sliced lunch meat and potato chips.

"It does sound interesting," he agreed. "I think some of your classmates will know what they are and will probably be able to show you how to make them. I would do so, but unfortunately, I do not know much about them except for the ingredients. I believe it is some sort of human treat."

He smiled at Snarf's selections. "Wise choices. A few things besides just snacks. There does seem to be a lot of those at campfires. I hope everyone is eating well while they are camping."

"It's Snarf's duty to make sure that people eat well," explained Lion-o.

"Exactly!" agreed Snarf.

"Excellent! I'm pleased to know that someone is looking out for all of the young people." And that also rather confirmed the title of 'babysitter.'

"Is there anything else you'd like?"

Lion-o was looking at the Squishy machine with curiosity. "What's a Squishy?"

"A squishy is a frozen, ~~highly addictive~~ flavored beverage. Many people enjoy them. Would you like to try a bit of one?"

"Sure!" said Lion-o eagerly. "It sounds neat!"

"Which flavor would you like? The store has three different flavors daily."

"Orange Slam!" said Lion-o.

G'Kar sent Apu to fetch Lion-O's squishy and handed it over to him. "Let me know what you think."

Except that Snarf bounded over and intercepted Lion-o's Squishy. "I should probably taste it first," he said. "You know, in my roll as Lion-o's protector." His ears wiggled as he finished off the Squishy. "Mmmm, delicious!"

"Snarf!" protested Lion-o.

"Umm, we'll take two more," said Snarf.

G'Kar didn't laugh. But he couldn't hide the smirk. Another satisfied customer. "Coming right up. Same flavor as before?"

Lion-o looked over at Snarf. "I guess so, since Snarf liked it so much the first time," he said.

G'Kar got Apu to fetch two more squishies. Apu said nothing as he brought them over. But he did eye Snarf curiously.

"And there you are." G'Kar rang up all the purchases. "The squishies are on the house. Would you like a bag?"

"Yes, please. Thank you," said Lion-o, making sure he got his Squishy first, then handing the second one to Snarf.

G'Kar bagged up all of Lion-O's other purchases and handed them to him with a smile. "It was a pleasure to meet you both. Please do come again. I am here on Tuesdays."

"It was good to meet you too, Mr. G'Kar," said Lion-o. "We'll definitely be back."

Snarf took the bags. It wouldn't do for the future Lord of the Thundercats to carry stuff.

I've been up since oh-dark-early. Dang.
