Turtle came in today to ensure that the store was still standing. What she discovered was almost worst:

Soliciting.

"...Madrox Moving Service, huh?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow at Jamie.

"Just doing my part to help with the moving of personal belongings," Jamie said with a jaunty salute. "Care to sign up? T&C employees and owners get a special rate."

Yeah... he really didn't have a set rate.

Turtle eyed Jamie a little, appraising how much of an idiot he might be, if he'd even think about really messing up any of his boss' stuff.

"How special?"

Jamie is a huge idiot. Not that he's showing it, because at the moment he is all business.

"Well that depends on the amount of stuff we are talking about," he said seriously. "Granted I can make the trip all at once but I have to calculate the amount of duplicates."

"...Would you include pets as a classification of stuff?"

True, technically, Nana was Jeff's stuff, not hers, but they were dating for practically a year now, and it's not like she ever imagined the words What? You got someone to take care of my dog for me? I don't know if I can deal with this, Turtle to ever leave his mouth. Even if they did, she was thinking it might be worth it.

"Are we talking fish or gerbils?" Jamie asked. "If it's anything bigger than that I'd normally charge extra but since you're the boss I'll waive my usual fee."

"I'm talking," Turtle said, "about Jeff's dog. Of course, if you don't think you're up to it, I understand. I just wonder what people might think if you're only willing to go about half-way on your services."

"That big dog?" Jamie said waving his hand in dismissal. "Three dupes tops. Want me to have her groomed? Not by me of course, professionally done."

Turtle stared at Jamie for a moment, wondering if he'd really actually met Nana.

She also remembered plans for Sunday where having Nana out longer might be...beneficial.

"How much extra?"

"Well you'd cover the cost of the entire grooming procedure," Jamie said with a shrug. "I'd just do a drop off and pick up."

Turtle stood quiet for a moment, her eyes rolled up a bit, with her mouth moving, head nodding, mental calculations flying through her head. Weighing numbers against each other and against her common decency and sense of timing.

"Nah," she deciding. "Grooming that dog would be the biggest waste of money imaginable. But, if you can include her in the moving process and you can give me a good rate since I'm your boss and very good friend, I'll grant you the privilege of being hired by me to move my stuff. Most of it. Some of my files are too important to entrust into the hands of just anyone."

Jamie gave her an innocent look. "What? You don't trust me?"

"It's nothing personal," Turtle assured him. "But I won't even let Jeff near those files."

"Okay," Jamie said with a sigh. "So I'm taking your stuff and the dog?"

Jamie wrote down what he thought was a reasonable figure and like a dork folded the paper and slid it across the counter.

"That's my price. For friends and bosses."

Turtle eyed the paper a moment before, like a dork, discretely pulled it forward enough so that she could take a peek under one of the corners. It seemed a number that she could easily negotiate lower, but, at the same time, it wasn't as if paying that would put a dent in her bank account. She nodded. "I find this price acceptable," she declared. "For the dog and most of my stuff, excepting a few files, which I will take care of before hand."

She pulled out her wallet so she could pay Jamie upfront as a true testament to her trust in him.

"Pleasure doing business with you, Madrox."

She said it in a tone that suggested not so much that it was, but that it had better be.

"Right back at 'cha boss," Jamie said with a grin.

And as for her tone? Well Jamie had problems deciphering tones. Just ask Vader.

"How negotiable are the negotiable rates?" Rikku asked. "I mean, I'm lazy, but I can totally carry my stuff. Or bribe some people into doing it for me."

"Well what would you use as a bribe?" Jamie asked. "Because I'm totally open to non-monetary bribes. If the stuff is good."

"Food, mostly," Rikku said, bouncing on her toes. "There are other non-monetary bribes but those were kinda gonna be aimed at Reno and that means I can't offer you those or he'd beat you up."

As you do.

"And you'd probably have a ninja knocking on your door if you did make those types of offers," Jamie grinned. "But food is completely good with me. How much stuff are we talking about?"

"Oooooooooooh, which ninja?" Rikku grinned, bouncing even harder. "That rules. Uh. Some cookies? Storebought, you don't want me to make cookies."

He really, really didn't.

"Not too much? I didn't take a lot of stuff, I mean, other than Petey, who's gonna be insane about it. Oooooh, do you have to carry Petey? That could be fun."

Petey didn't like transport.

"I'd be happy to take Petey and your stuff for store bought cookies," Jamie said. "And the ninja is new and works over at Wellspring. Temari."

"Oooooh, a co-worker!" Rikku grinned. "I haven't met her yet. And now I totally need to. What day does she work?"

"Tuesday," Jamie said. "Or at least that was the day she was there when I was there. She's... um. Different."

"Different how?" Rikku asked, leaning on the counter. "Different like she's an alien and has extra feet, or different like she was raised by wolves and I shouldn't look her directly in the eyes?"

Fandom had warped Rikku's definition of 'different.'

"Different in that I have no idea what's going on and she seems to throw me entirely off balance," Jamie said tilting his head. "Does that make sense?"

Rikku smiled, blushing a little as she stared down at the counter. "Yeah," she said. "Yeah, it totally does. I say, go with it."

"I guess it makes sense," Jamie said with a doofy grin. "I just hope she doesn't kill me someday for her own amusement."

"I've just ... been there," Rikku laughed. "Where you're going, 'I don't get it, and you keep messing up everything when I just got it all neat and organized and I tell you that and you laugh.' It's ... worth it. You know?"

"Well... even if it crashes and burns," Jamie said with a smirk. "I think it's going to be a hell of a ride."

"It will," Rikku beamed. "That's the fun part, yeah?"

"Amen, sister."

Wait. He doesn't work Thursdays any more. Bug Jamie.
