The York Gallery; Sunday [ 06/08 ]

Since it was the last day of the Naigles exhibit, it was certainly a busy day at the gallery. Charlotte had made sure to give her employees calls to let them know that they had the week off for the next exhibit's installation and then had to make sure everything was set to go out tomorrow, especially all the once that had been sold.

Still, there was still the usual tea set up for any visitors and she wasn't so busy that she couldn't be interrupted here and there.

The York Gallery is open!

Because busy doesn't mean uninterruptable.

It wasn't that Jaye had an interest in art. It was more that she hadn't been to this particular building in a while and she was sort of curious to see what it had been turned into.

Which might have explained why the girl who'd only known it when it was the Sin was standing there, looking around and saying, "...It's different."

Which was, really, a bit of a new comment, although, really, if Charlotte considered it, perhaps not all too out of line, all things considered. All things, it would seem, except for the actual reason, of which she was completely unaware.

Her head tilted slightly. "What is?"

"This place. It's all... not... Sinny," she explained oh so clearly, looking around. Of course, she hadn't discovered the naked statues. "When did that happen?"

And Charlotte, for all intents and purposes, did not exactly know what was meant by the description of Sinny, she just felt that it was not likely a very good thing, and it distressed her a bit until her concern was placated by reminding herself that, whatever it was supposed to mean, the girl had specifically said that the Gallery wasn't it. So that was good.

"About two months ago," Charlotte explained, "when I bought the place." She gave the girl a light smile, offering out her hand as well as an introduction. "Hi; I'm Charlotte. Charlotte York."

"Jaye Tyler," she said, though if she didn't notice Charlotte's hand, it was because she was struck with a very important question, like "Oh my god what happened to the couch?"

Back in Jaye's day they'd called it the semen couch. She'd refused to sit on that damn thing because of it.

And if Charlotte had known anything about Jaye's opinion on said couch, she'd have been very glad that her answer was what it was.

"I assume it was thrown out with everything else that was inside," she said. "I knew I'd be completely redoing the property when I bought it so I just had it entirely cleaned out."

Which had Charlotte's concern flooding back; she would feel awful if she'd just gone and gotten rid of something that someone was actually attached to, but, based on the documents, it had seemed that the property hadn't actually been in use for a while when she bought it...

Yeah, there was nothing like attachment going on here. "Oh thank god," she said, obviously relieved. "It'd be better if that thing was like, burned or something beforehand, but even I'd feel bad if it went to charity or something. Ew. Had to check."

Charlotte settled a little again, thankfully, a small smile of relief on her face, although it was still tainted a little with confusion. "Well, I figured," she assured Jaye," that whatever might have been in here had been in here untended to for so long before I bought the place that it wouldn't really be maintained well enough to be donated..."

And, it turned out, perhaps she'd made the right choice there.

Jaye tilted her head, considering that. "And before that it required Hazmat suits, so good call," she said. Granted, that suit had been for the fridge but still. She thought it would be required for everything else, too.

Charlotte's eyes widened at that. "Oh my God!" she gasped; she was just barely on the edge of asking the unfortunate question of exactly why that might have been, but her fear of not wanting to know held her tongue.

She figured it would just be easier to call in for a thorough inspection of the property to help ensure that it was actually safe and healthy after the remodeling without asking questions.

Somehow Jaye hadn't been expecting that reaction. "Well, I'm sure they got rid of the hazardous stuff when they cleaned all the stuff out. No, seriously, I do hope the bedding was burned, though."

Charlotte was barely containing her flail, but the distress was clear in both her expression and her voice. "Oh, I'm sure they were. I'm positive it was all very properly disposed of and the place was completely gutted when I remodeled the place, so..."

She started having a few rather unfortunate flashbacks regarding a property in the Hamptons... She shook her head to get them gone.

"I'm almost not sure," she admitted weakly, "I really want to ask why, but I assure you that it's entirely different now. Completely sanitary. I wouldn't have things any other way."

Jaye paused. "You mean you didn't know?" She'd sort of thought that would be told to people when they bought a property, kind of like how realtors were forced to tell prospective buyers that there'd been a murder in the house.

Charlotte felt something awful drop into the pit of her stomach. She considered passing it off and saying that she did, of course. For the sake of avoiding hearing something awful and for the sake of saving a little bit of face. She also now rather regretted the haste in which she'd just up and purchased the property.

No one else had said anything; it couldn't be too bad, right?

Lightly, gingerly, hesitantly, Charlotte shook her head.

"It used to be a brothel," Jaye said. "I used to be here all the time."

A broth--

"Oh...My..."

Which was actually quite a bit of a muted statement out of Charlotte, really. Her reaction was quelled quite a bit by the second part of what Jaye said, as her trailing remark and guarded observance of the girl for a moment might have suggested.

Too late, Jaye realized how that had to sound. "Oh, I didn't like, pay or anything," she said quickly. "My boyfriend at the time worked here."

It was actually kind of amazing how expressive just a simple widening of the eyes could be.

"Oh. I...I see."

Not that Charlotte would judge or anything.

Except for the fact that she actually would. She'd pretend not to, though.

"Well, it's definitely not a...a...a brothel anymore," she stated, just to make sure they were clear on that. "It's an art gallery." Which was much better.

Jaye was widely used to eye-widening from people. "Oh! No, he was the receptionist. He was the guy in the Hazmat suit not... doing things that required Hazmat sui... So an art gallery, huh? Very nice."

"What sort of--" Charlotte started and then, quickly, firmly, with a sharp shake of her head, decided that, no, she didn't really want to know exactly what sort of brothel activities would have occurred that would require such a job, but she did know that she was feeling like perhaps that, when the gallery closed for the night, it would be time to remind Dale that she still hadn't exactly stayed the night at his apartment yet, but that whole theory was flawed by the presumption she had that, on a normal weekday, Dale was likely in bed by ten.

There was also the possibility that he never actually slept on normal weeknights due to all the coffee.

Anyway.

"Thank you!" Charlotte charged forward on that topic with a bright grin. "I certainly hope so; it seems to have gotten a nice reception so far. You're catching us on the last day of our current exhibit, actually..."

Which, for the fact that it involved naked statues in this new light, she decided not to say much more about.

"Oh, good, then maybe I should check that out," said Jaye, who really didn't actually care what the exhibit was, but she'd gone a whole sentence without insinuating that she or Jarod was doing dirty bad wrong things in here except- ew, had Parker been doing dirty bad wrong things in here with- Ew, moving on.

"I'm gonna go do that," she nodded.

Charlotte gave her a slight, restrained sort of smile. "Enjoy," she said, trying not to think about unseemly things having happened her once upon a short time ago.

With a little wave, Jaye headed into the main gallery.

Fleeing any embarrassment, Jaye went ahead to look at the exhibit.

Which prompted her to say, "Huh."

I have nothing clever to put here today. FAIL.
