Luke's Diner, Friday, June 20

Ella got to the diner early and cut herself a tiny slice of the special bread pudding as she helped with the kitchen prep work.

Then a larger slice.

Then another.

By the time she was decorating the specials board, only one slice of the pudding was left, and even that one was at risk.

Specials
* Hot Ham & Cheese Sandwich

* Muffin Bread Pudding


The diner was open.

Murdock wasn't the least bit interested in the pudding. All he wanted was some coffee. "Hey Ella," he greeted dully, his usual spunk and chipperness wasn't with him today. Possibly because he hadn't sleep at all last night. "Could I get a coffee please?"

"I think we can manage that," Ella said sympathetically, pouring a cup for him.

It looked like he had a rough night, but she wasn't sure she wanted to ask. "How are you feeling this morning?"

He idly ran a hand over his face. "I've been better. Didn't get much sleep." He hadn't realized he'd spent all night camped at the cove until dawn came around. "Long day yesterday." He wrapped his hands around the coffee mug, almost as if to warm them. "Thanks."

Ella waved a hand dismissively. "It's just my job," she said. "Hope the coffee helps a little, anyhow. And maybe today will be better."

"Yah, I hope so," he replied quietly. He finally took a swig of his coffee. "I know it's your job, but I appreciate it anyway. Manners never hurt anyone." And not being a stubborn pain was good too. He sighed a little just thinking about it.
