You didn't shake off all the things you'd believed all your life overnight, or even in a couple of years' time, so by the time Jen got to work today she was severely unnerved by the apparitions she'd passed in the streets.
Her sudden (thankfully brief) bout with cold after one walked -- floated? -- within inches of her been bad enough, but the fact that her visual scanners couldn't give her any concrete data on what they were only made the experience more unsettling.
Jen was really not as brushed up on how to ward off the supernatural as she could have been. Stupid 30th-century technologicalsnootiness advancement snootiness.
