Luke's Diner; Thursday [ 07/03 ]
Cal was pretty comfortable in this sort of weather; considering the location, it was unnaturally warm, but it was the weather he was used to, for the most part, so he enjoyed the walk over to the diner and, once he got there, settled in to mostly just lean on the counter and drink coffee, and maybe, occasionally, clean up a bit. He did try his hand at the artistic convention of scribbling notes on napkins, but not only did he find that he had run his creative juices practically dry yesterday, but that napkins were utter crap to write on. More trouble than they were worth. So he just stuck with the coffee and waited for his shift to be over.
Today's Specials
Spanakopita Spinach, egg, feta, onion
"Black Soup"*
Apple Freakin' Pie.
* With tomato. I couldn't find pig's blood in the back. Probably a good thing.

Talk to Cal -- 07/03
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"Hello. Prune juice. Extra large."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"Here you go. And, hey, you're back to your normal charming self."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
Denial? Oh yeah.

Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
Denial. Denial. Denial.
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"You want anything to eat with that prune juice?"
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
The slight shiver might say something different.
He gazed at the menu and shrugged. "What do you recommend?"
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"I don't know. I think you should get the black soup. Good for a cold day, and, okay, no pig's blood, but it's definitely a soup befitting a warrior. It's what the Spartans used to eat."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
He paused for a moment looking hesitant.
"I do require your assistance."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
That, and it was a totally fudged recipe. Still, Cal felt a little bit of a swell of Greek pride finding out that Worf was from a different planet and he was pretty sure the future and everything, too, and still knew about bits of Cal's heritage.
"And what do you need help with?" he asked, setting the soup in front of Worf with a tilt of his head.
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"I have purchased hats in order to... blend in," he replied as he took a bite of the soup. "As new students are coming in this weekend I thought it would be appropriate not to stick out until they have adjusted to the environment."
He took another spoonful of the soup. "Good soup."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"Hats? As in plural? You want me to help pick out which'll be best?"
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
It's his lovable scowl.
"Yes. I was hoping to find something appropriate to this time period."
He took out one hat (http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o142/Davrondomar/WorfWill.jpg) and placed in on his head. "It was my hope to not look ridiculous."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
Whether or not to tell Worf that that hat was entirely appropriate and not at all silly right now seemed like one of those moments.
On the one hand, Worf was the type of guy who ate black soup and liked it (not even Desdemona, despite her claims, liked it). He could have Cal to a bloody pulp for the next batch in seconds.
On the other hand, if what Ino was doing to him was any indication of the treatment he received as a kitten, and all those people were still alive, well, telling him that was a good hat was almost kind. Comparatively.
Cal rubbed his chin a little in thought. He was absolutely astonished and very impressed that he didn't just bust out laughing looking at Worf right now. "It's a good color for you," he offered. "But let's see what else you have, for comparison."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"How about this?" he asked as he continued to devour the soup and drink his prune juice.
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
It was still not nearly as hilarious as the other.
But he was supposed to be helping.
Damn the rift between knowing which Muse to appease!
"Um, maybe. What else?"
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"I am not sure about this one."

Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
"I'd go with the knit cap," he decided, with a shrug. "Simple, gets the job done, fits for our current setting. You'd look like a tool in the baseball cap, and the first one...I was going to go with that one, but, you know, honor and shit. I don't know what you were thinking with that, man."
He did consider Worf as good of a friend as any, after all, and friends didn't let friend wear hats like...that. No matter how hilarious it would have been.

Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
Which he hoped to God that Worf was not.
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
He did catch himself before doing an actual spit take. No soup was lost and the spoonful was successfully swallowed.
He did gave Cal a look of... restrained horror.
"That would have been... unfortunate."
Re: Talk to Cal -- 07/03
For probably...everyone, on the whole.

Because he clearly didn't work out enough.

Per say. It wasn't good, either, but he was a newly male fourteen year old running away from home across the country. It was kind of destined to fail.
