Luke's, Friday, July 4

Ella had no idea the fourth was a holiday, until the grumbling of the kitchen staff gave her a good idea.

"Give us the day off," the dishwasher demanded.

"Um. All right," Ella said, only a little nervous. If it was a holiday, there shouldn't be too many customers ... right? And most of the food wasn't that hard to cook; she could manage on her own.

Absolutely.

After the staff left, she finished the prep work and settled in behind the counter. The diner seemed very quiet.

Specials
Corn on the Cob
Grilled Bratwurst
Cherry Pie

G'Kar smiled at Ella as he walked in. "Good day to you," he said, bowing a little. "I must thank you for your assistance last week."

"I did," he assured her, "I just wasn't my normal self. Perhaps you remember the shrimp? And a certain feline."

"Thank you," he smirked. "I rather thought I was cute as well. And it is most intriguing. It almost seems that no matter what form I take, I retain my spots. I wonder if that will be a continuing occurrence."

"I do like it, but I think it was more of a cat thing," he grinned. As was the urge to chase lemurs.

"I am fine, thank you. I fear that day was more driven by hunger than much else. Cats do not appear to have the ability to open appliances." A problem which has now been remedied in G'Kar's apartment.

Dick walked into Luke's. He hadn't caught sight of any cookouts and he wasn't about to start one, but he still needed to eat and Luke's was open.

"Hey, Ella. Kind of quiet today, huh?"

"Well, that depends on how funny it would be to place a huge order, making you do that much more work," Dick said. "If it wouldn't be funny, then I'm pretty good. If it would be really funny though, then I'm not as good as I could be."

"Oh, funny for me to watch, obviously," Dick said. "And I think it would be pretty funny to watch."

"No clue, I was just planning on ordering a brat and a Coke," Dick said. "I just wanted you to know that I could have been really entertained if I were a terrible person."

"Will you thank me when I give you a good tip?" Dick asked.

Tyler was a fan of any holiday that encouraged blowing things up in service to the country, so he was portalling to Alexandria to see the fireworks in D.C.

But before he left, he tacked a notice to the board:

For rent: Two bedrooms, garage, basement apartment in quiet house. Call 555-SOAP if interested.
