Groovy Tunes; Monday [ 06/07 ]

If Chad was in a good mood today (which he was), it didn't really show (because he's Chad). But, really, there was only one thing that could have made his day better and that would have been to finally see that the ad he shot was running in a magazine. As he idly waited for the hours of the workday to tick away, he flipped through a few and, sure enough, there it was. And sure enough, there he was, although, in the scope of the ad as a whole, Chad was noticeable mainly because he was Chad, but he was in the background of all of it, barely part of the main ad itself, but he was there and he found it, and this added to the events of weekend made this Monday possibly the best Monday ever.

He was in an ad. Sure, you had to search a little bit to find him, but there he was! It was...so cool.

Prince Oscar Pedro got sick of hearing Chad talking about it in Japanese after a half hour, though.

Today's Mix: Sex Blurred Weekend, and it was actually applicable again. Mmmm. Gooooood weekend.

Knowing that there were new kids around, Chad had also brushed the dust of the Help Wanted sign and put it in the window.

Groovy Tunes is open!

Agnes hurried into the music store excitedly, and stopped, confused. There was a distinct lack of instruments and sheet music, and instead, there were... things. She picked a few CDs off the shelves and examined them closely, trying to divine their purpose so she didn't have to actually ask for help.

"Er..." She was a witch now; she shouldn't admit to being confused. She should DEMAND that he show her what these things were. Maybe she should even try to pry the information out of his mind.

"Yes, you can, thank you," she answered politely. "I'm looking for some music?"

"I can't tell you a particular kind," Agnes told him, "because I don't know what kinds are out there. To be perfectly honest, I'm not really sure what there are." She waved a CD at him.

"A different universe entirely," Agnes confirmed. "At least, I think. Does that happen here often?"

She looked down at the CDs in her hands, still a bit confused. "So, how do you play the music with these?" She held out one that she had grabbed because it was labeled "Black Sabbath", and she might as well have some witchy music. "Can you show me?"

"Thank you very much," Agnes told him, blushing a little as she followed him. He was very tall, and VERY handsome, and very nice. "I'm --" Perdita. Tell him you're Perdita. Tell SOMEONE your name is Perdita. Or ANYTHING else, for that matter, unless you want to be stuck with 'Agnes' forever and ever. "-- Agnes. Agnes Nitt."

She went to curtsy, then remembered her new status and bowed instead, which just ended up dumping her black pointy hat onto the floor.

"You're sorry?" Agnes asked, with a snort. "You're not the one stuck with the name." If you'd told him you were Perdita, he wouldn't be STARING at you like that! She frowned at Chad. "Look, it's not THAT bad, is it? If you need to laugh, go ahead."

"Really? Well, if it weren't for being from a different universe and everything, I'd ask if maybe we were related." Agnes sighed. "Poor girl. I feel sorry for her already."

"Oh, just because of the name. It's not one I'd wish stuck on anyone else." Agnes leaned over to get a better view of the CD case. "You never did tell me yours, either. I can't..." She swallowed, wondering what was possessing her to be so bold. "I can't exactly walk around calling you Tall Dark And Handsome, now can I?"

Well... that wasn't the reaction she normally got from boys. Agnes wasn't sure what to make of it. After all, it wasn't like there was any shortage of much prettier girls walking around...

"And then you close it again and hit the switch labeled 'Play'?" Agnes guessed. It seemed easy enough to use.

The first few moments Agnes spent wincing and frowning. "That's not music!" she protested. "That's awful! I don't know what it is, but..." It was harsh, and dissonant, and edgy, and... strangely compelling. "Hang on, let it play."

"Is ALL music like this on your world?" Agnes eventually asked, still unsure whether or not she liked it. "It's... very different from what I'm used to."

"That's definitely different," Agnes agreed. To think she had come looking for a songbook! "It's closer to what I'm used to, but... less what I'm looking for. I don't suppose you have time to show me more?"

"Yeah, I'll know it when I hear it," Agnes told him. "I'm looking for something I can sing along with, I guess?" Maybe she had liked the metal music, after all. "Something loud."

Zeppelin would have fit Agnes's vocal range better -- Plant's was impressive, hers was nigh-impossible, and Jagger's was... not so impressive -- but as an introduction to music, it was pretty good.

Agnes found herself grabbing Chad's shirt and looking up at him with big, wide eyes and a giant smile. "This... What IS this???"

Agnes looked at her hand, blushed furiously, and released his shirt. "It's good," she muttered. "I like it. I guess... I guess they're not gathering any moss, huh?" She chuckled weakly at the joke.

Agnes grinned, and started bouncing on her toes, and started dancing a little. "This is really good! So... These musicians are the Classic Rocks, then? Do you have more of their work?"

"No, you said the last one was the Rolling Stones, not the Classic Rocks. I was listening." She grinned at Chad. "I like your band. You guys should release more CDs."

Agnes looked out across the store. Now that she new what the CDs were, she felt like she could almost feel the music inside them, subliminal vibrations just out of the reach of her senses. "They're almost alive," she told Chad. "It's a whole new kind of magic..."

"'Rock', like 'Music With Rocks In'?" Agnes asked. If it was the same thing, then all of the peddlers' and travelers' descriptions really didn't do it justice. It was... Well, it was... Okay, so she didn't have words for it, either.

"If you don't think it's magic," she challenged, "then how does the CD player thing actually work? There isn't an imp inside?"

"Oh, music is its own kind of magic," she assured him. And it was one that she understood better than any of the other witches back home. "And this music is... more so."

She looked around. "Electricity's what runs the lights, right? It's fascinating, what people can come up with."

Agnes grinned and pointed at her black pointy hat. "I'm not wearing this because I think it's fashionable," she observed.

"But it's not," Agnes told him. "I'm a witch, and I can do magic. Is that unusual around here, or is it as common as people from other worlds?"
