Mary had the "Help Wanted" sign up at the front desk. She also had fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies next to the sign.

"Good afternoon," Viki chirped, wandering in and beaming at the hiring sign.

Mary was beaming. The sign worked! Or maybe it was a the cookies.

"Good afternoon! Welcome to the Arms Hotel. How can I help you today?" asked Mary, a huge smile on her face.

"I was going to ask if you're hiring," she said, glad that the woman looked so cheerful, "but your sign says you are so it's a terribly silly thing to ask, really. Who do I talk to about it, please?"

Viki had common sense for two things: money, and food. Both of which a job meant she could have.

"That would be me. I'm Mary Connell, the owner and manager of the hotel," she said.

She beamed at her. "I'm Viki, Miss Connell, and I was wondering what days you were hiring and what experience you needed."

"You don't really need a lot of experience since I'll definitely train you," said Mary. "The job pretty much involves watching the front desk during the day, helping people check-in or out, getting fresh towels for any guests who stop by the desk. There's daily food specials as well, and you can work with our chef to decide which specials should go on the board."

Mary checked her clipboard before continuing. "I was hoping to start opening more on weekends, so Saturday and Sunday are definitely available. Tuesdays just opened up as well, since my Tuesday person wants to switch to another day. Do any of those work for you?"

"They all work for me," she said brightly. "But maybe the weekend? Um, Saturday, you said?"

A beat.

"And I can help people get to their rooms!" With teleporting! That'd be exciting, she thought. Amber had liked it. "I've watched Hilda run an inn before, it's like that, right?"

"Pretty much," said Mary. "It does get a little hectic when we have a event in town, but otherwise it's very easy. I'll put you down for Saturdays. There's is a specific menu (http://montecito-east.livejournal.com/12106.html) that Gunther has been serving on Saturdays, but you can decide if you want to have something different."

"I'll remember," Viki said earnestly. "I promise. And I like meeting new people so that sounds like fun! Thank you very much, Miss Connell!"

"Oh, thank you!" said Mary. "Did you want to start this Saturday? Let me show you around now, since I'm usually not around much on the weekends. I have a fiancé who lives off-island, so I'm usually traveling back and forth a lot."

"How exciting!" she said, with big eyes. "Do you get to see all sorts of places then? And yes, please, I'd love to start this Saturday."

"Why don't you come around here and take a look at the front desk?" said Mary, waving Viki over. "I don't get to see a lot of places, actually. I'm just going back and forth between Fandom and my boyfriend's place in California."

Viki all but bounced over, nearly tripping in her eagerness to come and see. Yay job! "It all sounds very romantic though," she said. "Travelling just to see the one you love."

"So, here we have the guest register, which people sign when they check in, and then I've got a list of the rooms that are taken (http://montecito-east.livejournal.com/21153.html) and rooms that are available, and then room keys are all in this drawer," said Mary.

"And I'm sure it sounds romantic, but it's actually kind of tough. He used to live right here in the hotel, and this place hasn't felt the same since he left. I miss him so much when we're not together."

She nodded very seriously to the information Miss Connell was giving her. She would make sure to remember this. It was Important.

"Ooooh," she drooped slightly before perking up. "At least he remembers and still loves you and you get to see him?"

"Thank goodness for that," said Mary, smiling. "The weekends when I get to see him are what keeps me going."

There was a lot of information, but Mary had everything set up so it was easy to find. "There's also extra towels and robes behind the desk in case a guest needs them ~~or in case of nudity emergencies~~, and River keeps a well-stocked fruit bowl at the desk also."

"It really does sound romantic, Miss Connell," Viki said, smiling. "I've never had anything like that."

"Extra towels are here," she nodded. "And a fruit basket. Do I have to make sure the fruit is fresh, just check up on it?"

"Oh, you can just call me Mary," she said. "And yes, you just have to check on it. If you need more, just ask Gunther or his sous chef and they'll bring it for you. As for the towels, the housekeepers will bring extra if you need them."

She nodded. It was a lot, but it all made sense so long as she made a point to make sure she remembered it.

"Miss Mary then," Viki smiled. "I'll do my best to get it right."

Pretty much SP all day today owing to a couple work-related disasters, but I'll try to get to pings as soon as I can.

*stares at specials*

Oh my god, I LOVE tilapia and that sounds so good but my nut allergies aspodfaosjdlfaslsasdfjasl WAUGH.
