Magic Box, Wednesday [7/23]

Being that Mr. Giles was away, Andrew decided to take the day and do a few managerial tasks. He pulled out a couple of large, dusty books from under the counter and plopped them down with a thunk. Upon opening the first one, Andrew was confronted with columns of numbers and dollar amounts. He frowned. The last entry was dated clear back in April.

"Time to cook the books," he mummbled, grabbing a pencil and setting about his task. He had no clue what he was doing.

The Magic Box was open!

Agnes walked in and looked around the shop curiously. "Wow..." she gasped, as she started looking at the shelves of books.

"Not unless it's pickled properly," Agnes replied, still looking at the books. "Otherwise, it'll spoil before I ever need to use it."

She looked around. "You just... sell all of this? To anyone?"

He's lying.

No he's not.

Yes, he is.

"Well, I suppose as long as you're being responsible about it..."

Agnes sighed. "I don't actually have any money. I don't suppose you'd let me just borrow some of these books for a bit?"

Agnes blushed and played with her hair nervously. "If I were going to steal them, I'd have just stolen them. I'm not... I... well, wait. If I mixed up some potions, would you buy them off me? Then I could pay you for the books."

Finally, someone reacting in CLOSE to the proper way.

Agnes straightened her posture and tried to look more imposing. "Yes, I'm a witch. From Lancre, which you've probably never heard of." She looked around the room. "Mostly, I'm good with wart removers, salves for muscle pain, sleeping potions, that sort of thing. But with the ingredients you have here, I could probably make anything you have the recipe for... Probably."

"No, it's in a different universe. It's... nowhere near California, that's for sure. And men can't be witches." She frowned. "Can't usually be witches," she corrected, because, hey, who was she to tell the universe what was and wasn't possible? "It's the wrong kind of magic. And I think your friend ought to just learn to be happy looking like himself."

"No, but I've met people who want to use magic irresponsibly," Agnes countered. She'd been one, for a while.

And what's wrong with being a little irresponsible every now and then?

"Uh... Any of them, really. I don't think any of them are familiar." She shrugged. "The one thing I know plenty about is herbs. I'm kind of an expert on herbs." She'd had to be -- that's what most of the cottage's books were about. "Is there anything about the uses of music in magic?"

"No, but I like to sing," Agnes answered. "And the magic sort of... leaks into it. Are you a wizard, then?"

"Summoning makes me nervous," Agnes confided. "I don't really like the idea of calling on something evil and then expecting it to follow your rules." Of course, Nanny Ogg did it fairly often, but then, if it came to a fight between Nanny and a demon, Agnes knew who she'd put her money on.

"But... The books would be nice. What room are you in? I'd love to stop by and see what you have."

"Directly underneath me," Agnes told him. "I'm in 401. I'll see you around, then, pretty soon."

She blushed as she realized that she'd just invited herself over to a boy's room. And Andrew was pretty cute. He's scrawny! And sweet. And funny-looking!

She blushed even more.
