The Arms Hotel Lobby, Saturday

There did seem to be more children around than usual today, she thought while braiding her hair at the lobby desk. Viki wondered where they’d all been hiding before now because it was, really, very pleasing to see so many kids.

More kids meant that it had been peaceful for long enough that people had felt safe having them. Viki approved.

Who'd be pleased to talk back~

After talking to that weird guy on the phone earlier, little Mary spent some time riding up and down in the elevators before getting bored and going to the front desk. "Can I have a cookie?" she asked.

Viki beamed. "You can have lots of cookies!"

Mary grinned at the nice lady. "Thank you!" she said.

"Cookies are good for you," Viki said, nodding. "Because they make people smile, that's why they're good. What's your name? I'm Viki!"

"My name's Mary, and I'm this old!" she said, holding up five fingers.

"You're a big girl," Viki agreed. "Five is a very good age, Mary. My boss is named Mary too, did you know?"

[Totally not a problem!]

Mary nodded, a serious expression on her face. "It's a very good name," she said.

G'Kar found his way to the hotel. He hadn't stopped by in a very long time, and he wondered if he'd run into Mary.

He smiled at the lady behind the counter. "Hello."

"Hi!" Viki chirped. "Welcome to the Arms Hotel, did you want a cookie?"

"Sure!" he grinned. "Thank you. I haven't seen you in here before. What's your name?"

"Do you come here often?" she asked, getting a cookie and napkins for him. "I am here every Saturday, because Miss Mary hired me for then. My name is Viki, what's yours?"

"Not like I should," he replied honestly. "I stayed here for a while when I first got here. I like Mary, she's nice. I even went to her birthday party!"

"I'm G'Kar. Nice to meet you."

"I bet it was lots of fun, the party," she said, beaming. "And it's very nice to meet you as well."

"It was," he agreed, "I bought her a very nice ... present."

It seemed weird to mention that he'd gotten her a dress. Why did he buy her a dress, anyway? What kind of present was that? A toy would've been better.

"Hi Vicki! Do you go to school here?"

It should've been obvious, but maybe she was just a slightly-older looking kid.

"I do! It's very exciting, but everyone is very kind and I've never been before so I'm enjoying it quite a bit. And I'm sure she liked your present."

"She seemed to," he shrugged. Boring. Nobody wanted to get clothes on their birthday. Yucky!

"What kind of classes do you take?"

"Fun ones," she assured him. "I like them lots. Have you had any classes yet? Or are you still too little?"

"I own a store! So I don't have to go to school."

That wasn't true, really. He did own a store, part of it at least, and usually he worked there.

Of course, he was usually a lot older as well.

Logan ran up to Viki. "A kangaroo didn't check itself in, did it?"

"Not that I saw," she said, considering it. "Did you lose one?"

"I'm chasing one," Wolverine explained. "I've been chasing him all day, so I thought he might have come here to take a nap."

"Why are you chasing it?" Viki asked. "Did it take something of yours? I haven't seen any napping going on around here though..."

"I'm gonna ride in his pouch," Wolverine said.

"Did you ask the kangaroo?"

"There's an understanding," Wolverine said.

"Then I'm sure she'll come around eventually to it--maybe she thinks you're just playing tag!"

"More like hide and seek," Wolverine said. "Thanks anyway. I should get going though. I don't want to lose the trail."

"I wish you luck," she said solemnly. "And a cookie."

Which she offered to him.

"Thanks!" Wolverine said, taking the cookie before running off. "Have a good day!"

Who'll pout at you from the desk.

I'm so tiiiiired.
