Our Lady of Fandom, Sunday

On the door of the church was the usual note:

Do-it-yourself Sunday Service

Gabriel hade coffee and donuts. Cat had a dead mouse.

Karal had Altra, of course, and a sinking sense of foreboding as he came into the church Sunday morning. When he spotted Gabriel, he sagged with relief. "Thank Vkandis," he said. "I was afraid you would be a child."

"A child?" Gabriel looked amused. "Like the adult humans?" He gestured at the donut box. "Help yourself."

"There is oddness this weekend," he explained, as Altra peered into the box so Karal could take a doughnut. "Some of the adults have been changed into children, and I was worried about you."

Gabriel just looked at him. "I'm an angel, not an adult."

Cat yawned, stretched, and sat up, staring at Karal.

Altra stared back at Cat, which meant Karal was as well. "I know, but it's Fandom," he said sheepishly. "Stranger things do happen."

Cat didn't get the Karal staring through Altra's eyes part. She lay down again, her paws curled up under her body.

"So what would you have done?" Gabriel looked amused.

"Umm, I'm not sure." He nibbled at his doughnut while he thought. "Tried to keep you out of trouble, and make sure you were fed and looked after."

"Hey! I don't get into trouble!" Gabriel almost looked as if he was joking. "So how are you doing?"

He smiled. "But you might have if you had been turned into a small child," he pointed out. "I'm doing well, Gabriel. I'm sorry I've not been to see you, but it took me some time to, well, to get used to this." He gestured at his eyes. "Are you well?"

"Haven't been better in a long time. Coffee?" Gabriel looked cheerful, appearing not to notice that it had been a long time since they met. The perspective on that was a little different for an angel though.

"Yes, please." Karal was glad Gabriel didn't seem to mind how long it had been. "Do you need anything? Any supplies or food?"

"Help yourself," Gabriel replied, obviously finding it completely reasonable that Karal should fetch his own cup. "And maybe some more candles would come in handy." He lowered his voice. "I've found a good coffee supply. No middle hands."

Karal went to pour himself a cup, Altra turning so he could see where he was going. "I'll bring you some candles during the week," he said. "Do you want another cup?"

"Oh, yes. And can you make sure they're wax candles? Nicer smell." Cat yawned again. "Want to hear the new apocalyptic fanfare?" Gabriel continued.

"I will," he promised as he poured two cups, making his careful way back to offer one to Gabriel. Karal was very sure that he didn't want to hear the latest apocalyptic fanfare, but he smiled anyway and said, "I'd like to hear it if you'd like to play it for me."

[ooc: bedtime for me!]

"Of course." Gabriel picked up his trumpet and blew a sounds that made the walls of the church shiver and one windowpane burst. Cat disappeared under a pew.

[sleep well]

Altra flattened his ears and hissed and Karal clapped his hands over his, wincing at the torrent of sound.

"Impressive, huh?" Gabriel placed the trumpet on the pew again and picked up his coffee.

"It is...yes, impressive would be one way to describe it," Karal said, louder than he'd meant to; his ears were ringing. "I'm amazed we're still in one piece!" And he had no idea how such a loud noise had come out of the relatively small instrument.

"Just the intro," Gabriel said. "Not time for the full version yet. So what's the news on the island? I haven't kept up."
