Former Echolls Mansion, Monday, 8/4

"So about that whole being back on Friday thing..." Xander said as he reached for his Galaxy Quest hardhat. "I'll just say have you met the idiot who plays me Portalocity? At least it gave the contract guys some time to get the first floor walls started for us."

He pointed to the building, which was indeed starting to look more like a building, now. When he turned back around and stubbed his toe on the black stump in his path, there followed a few choice not-safe-for-squirrel epithets before he shook his head and added, "Helps that it wasn't totally a pile of rubble to start with. Good foundation goes a long way. So today we start building on that. There's pre-cut lumber already laid out, and the places that need framework are marked with red cable-ties. Need any help, I'll be working over on the south-east corner. Just yell."

He paused. "Preferably something like 'Hey Xander' unless we're talking industrial accident or something's ignoring the No Rampaging signs. Then go with 'Help!' Or 'Oh frak!'"

Donning his safety gear, Seely started hammering away.

Ew hammering. Less fun than clearing debris. What if she hit her thumb? Still, Z donned her safety gear and got to work.

After safety-gearing up, Bridge gets to work on getting the framework hammered.

...The kind with nails. He's not getting it drunk.

Viki knew better than to even try to help. She'd only get in the way, and no doubt wind up injuring herself purely by accident.

This did not mean, however, that she felt any shame in watching the proceedings cheerfully.

Momoko was walking around town and found herself at the worksite. There were students working and she wondered if she could volunteer for something. She climbed over a rather oddly located stump and came close enough to realize that the best way for her to help today was to sit and watch. She climbed back onto the stump, pulled out a bag of candy, and enjoyed a few minutes of ogling.

Ooh, hey, someone he doesn't know! At some point, Bridge wanders over to where Momoko is sitting and gives her a friendly wave. "Hi!"

Momoko tilted her head, and looked around quickly. Surely this was not a really cute boy coming over to see her. She froze for a moment and then pointed at herself. "Hi, me?"

"Hi, you," Bridge confirms, bouncing over.

"Hi me! Hi you!" Momoko blushed. "Uhm. Are you sure you can just leave work and visit with people? Not that I want you to go away, 'cause wow, boys don't usually just walk up and say hi to me, but I don't want to get anyone in trouble because I'm sitting here. It's okay to sit here, right? There was a stump and everything!"

Re: Ogle

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Bridge snorts and glances towards Xander. "I don't think he'll write me up or anything," he says. "I'm Bridge, by the way. And I think it's totally okay that you're sitting there. I mean, if you were in the actual work area you'd have to be wearing proper safety gear, but you're well outside that so I think you're okay."
heromaniac: (smile giggle)

Re: Ogle

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-08-05 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah ah! That's true, that's true! But if I was in the work area I'd would be in trouble for sitting on a stump and not doing any work, even if I was wearing the safety equipment." She paused. "Or is there safety gear required for stump sitting, too?"

She bounced down from the stump and held out her bag of candy, grinning widely. "Gummy fruit? My name's Momoko. I'm new to Fandom, but I'm a sophmore because I'm from a different world and our school system works different than yours does. Well, yours if you're from here, which you may not since I haven't met anyone yet who is."

"Oooh, thanks," unlike Xander, Bridge hadn't spent the weekend overdosing on sugar. "I'm from... *a* version of Earth? I mean, it's about fifteen years ahead of here and also there's a lot of stuff that's only happened in my world."
heromaniac: (smile happy eyes closed)

Re: Ogle

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-08-05 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko popped a gummy grape and smiled. "I guess being from the future is popular here! Do you know Hoshi and Jen? They're both from the future, too. You could start a club! I probably couldn't join, though, because while my world is a different time, it's really close to this one with just a few small differences. Like the portals. Oh, and the living robots. We only have a few mecha and power suits. We do have an Australia, though!"

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Jen's from the future of my future," Bridge blinks. "...I swear that made sense in my head." A pause. "Wait, you have mecha?" He knows that word. That was what they called the Zords in the Abaranger series.
heromaniac: (yay 1)

Re: Ogle

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-08-05 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah! Someone who knows that word!" Momoko twirled, in a small circle so as to avoid the stump. "Rikku calls them droids, but I think her droids are different because they're automated and Bumblebee is an actual alien, so he's not a mecha and the policeman robot during Robo-con said they were called "post-organics" but I don't think mecha are post-organics because they don't think, the PILOT does, or is supposed to, at least. Do you have mecha in your world too?"

She smiled happily. "Not everyone has mecha in my world, but my friend the Professor built one! Well, three, really. He lets me drive the red one sometimes, although I can't while I'm here and I kinda got grounded from piloting anyway."

Re: Ogle

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"I think droids are kind of smaller. The only droid I've met has been like, about half the height of a person. In my world we have Zords," Bridge says. "But they call them mecha on TV. I'm... I know *how* to pilot one, but I haven't been assigned one yet or anything."
heromaniac: (hearts4eyes)

Re: Ogle

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-08-05 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Hmm. 'Zords' That's a new one." Momoko chewed another gummy fruit, holding out the bag for her new friend to take another piece if he chose. Suddenly the realization struck her...

"Wait, TV? Does that mean you watch Abarangers, too? Waaaah! So cool! You can pilot a mecha and you like Abarangers?! Ah ah! Will you be my boyfriend? I have every episode up to right before I came here, but only because my links won't work here to download anymore. And I have a series that apparently doesn't exist here in this world called 'Miracle Fighting Ace' that you'll really like, and I even have all the OVAs!" Momoko's eyes suddenly changed into giant hearts.

Re: Ogle

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2008-08-05 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I- wait, wait, what? No!" Bridge squeaks. "I mean, you seem very nice and it's nothing against you personally but I'm- I'm engaged! Getting married in two weeks," he reaches up to touch the engagement ring around his neck. "I think a girlfriend at this point in time would be um. Problematic." To put it one way.
heromaniac: (ehhh yeah)

Re: Ogle

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-08-06 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko's face fell into a wry grin and she threw up her hands. "Yeah that's my luck. Although 'engaged' is a new reason. Usually I just get a 'no way you crazy otaku!' and they run away. Figures I'd finally find someone who likes the same things and he's already taken." She took a breath, then smiled at him and held out the candy again.

"So can we be friends still, even if you're engaged? You like Abarangers and piloting mecha and we can still watch Miracle Fighting Ace OVA's if your fiancee doesn't mind that it's a superhero show with some mecha. She can even come too, if she likes. Candy?"

Re: Ogle

[identity profile] bridge-carson.livejournal.com 2008-08-06 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"We can absolutely be friends," Bridge nods. And then there's another glance towards Xander. "Except that, uh. My fiance would probably prefer the other pronouns be used to refer to him since he is, uh. A him."
heromaniac: (make face tongue)

Re: Ogle

[personal profile] heromaniac 2008-08-07 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Momoko froze for a moment, pinched her nose and raised a hand in the hopefully pan-universal sign for 'wait', then took a step back to the stump and climbed up. She sat for a second, took a deep breath, and looked up, her eyes glinting mischieviously.

"Hi me? Hi you!" She jumped back down and bounced over to stand again in front of the boy, smiling. "My name's Momoko Akatsutsumi and I'm new to Fandom, but I'm a sophmore because my school system works different than yours does. Well, yours if you're from here, which you may not since I haven't met anyone yet who is and even I'm not because I had to get here through a portal and wow doesn't this seem VERY deja vu?" She winked.
