Geoffrey had the door open and every single script he owned out on the floor of the theatre as he tried to figure out which one he'd do next. He sat in the middle of them, picking them up and thumbing through them, reading the notes and a few lines before putting them back down again when another faded, dog-eared cover caught his eye.

Yeah, the Boards is kind of open. Ish. The door is anyway.

Was pretty darn preoccupied with his playtexts, but I'm sure he'd look up and say hello if you wanted to chat.

Hinata wasn't sure, exactly, how it came to be that she wound up at The Boards (though, privately, she was going to blame Fandom's oddness in the last few days), and peeked around the edge of the door.

He looked up with a smile.

"Well, hello. Hello. We're done with the run for the moment, but we'll be doing another production.

"How may I help you?"

She flushed a bit, returning the smile tentatively. "I'm n-not sure e-entirely," Hinata admitted. "C-Considering the i-island decided t-that the d-door l-leading out of m-my cabin o-opened up h-here."

"I a-am, t-though, p-pleased to h-hear there w-will b-be another p-production."

"You came to the other one. Twice, if I recall correctly," he said.

He was insane, but there was nothing wrong with his memory.

"I d-did," Hinata said, a little surprised that he'd remember her. "I'd t-thought it d-deserved more t-than one watch t-though."

"I would agree with you, especially," he stood up, "considering our performances. Were you there for the one with the 12 year old Titus or the one with the hyena?"

She shook her head, fighting a small smile. "N-No, neither of the o-ones I saw h-had anything l-like that."

He smiled.

"Guess you should try three next time. Are you here to try out?"

He looked around at the scripts on the floor.

"I don't know what I'm going to be doing yet, but feel free to pick something up and give it a read on the stage if you'd like."

It was years of facing her father that kept her from simply fleeing at that suggestion. "T-Try o-out?" Hinata stammered badly. "M-Me?"

"Try out for the play," he repeated for her. Slowly.

"The next one."

"M-Me?" she asked disbelievingly.

One moment, Mary was leaving the hotel's kitchen with a plate of chocolate-chip cookies. She walked through the door to the lobby... and found herself in the theater instead.

"Um, hi. Would you like some cookies?"

The smell of cookies, especially chocolate-chip cookies, is the universal attention getter. He perked.

"Cookies?"

For a man who occasionally forgets to eat, they looked really very good.

"Yes, if you... that is, if you don't mind."

He stood and walked around his books to get to her with a faint, only slightly manic, smile.

"I... don't suppose you'll be doing this regularly? Showing up and making a contribution to, er, my stomach?"

He's not pompous enough to consider him eating important to the 'arts'.

"Go ahead and take as many as you'd like. And I suppose I could do this regularly," said Mary. "I tend to bake too many cookies to eat on my own, and there's only so many cookies I can give out at the hotel."

Not to mention that she really didn't like to see people go hungry.

Well, he's not starving. Er. Now.

"You came to the play," he said in between bites of a cookie. He was eating relatively slow for a man who hadn't eaten all day. He'd been Busy.

"I did, and I really enjoyed it," said Mary. "It's night to see some new options for entertainment in this town. See, I came from Las Vegas, and I'm a bit used to more options for nightlife than what you get in Fandom."

"Well, I'm going to be doing another one so I'm glad someone was happy to see a bit of art around here," he said with a faint grin.

"Never been to Vegas."

"Oh, that's good to hear! I think a little bit of culture is always a good thing," she said. "It can certainly be good for my business as well if it brings people into town. My name is Mary, by the way, and I run the Arms Hotel."

"Geoffrey," he said with a smile, offering a clean (he'd dusted it off on his coat) hand.

"Of the Boards, as you can see."

"It's good to finally meet you," said Mary, returning the handshake and the smile. "I've been meaning to come down here before, but it's been a really crazy summer."

"Yeah," he said, running a hand through his hair, "so I'm learning. You haven't been turned into anything furry, have you?"

"That's pretty common around here," said Mary with a sympathetic look. "I've occasionally turned into a kitten, and one of my best employees once turned into an owl. Another one of my employees got stuck in a locker at the school for a couple of days, and one of the guests at the hotel turned into a pineapple."
