Okay, so her experiment hadn’t precisely worked because she’d wound up in the preserve anyway when she’d tried to get here, and then the gym, and then her dorm room and it had turned out that going into her closet had wound her up here.

Fandom’s travel agents needed help or something, because that made utterly no sense.

Either way, she was there, and fretting a bit while staring dubiously outside. How sad would that be if the birthday girl couldn’t get here?

Oh. And Lucas, of course. She tried not to dwell on the part though. It wasn’t his fault that she wasn’t fond of him even though she’d talked to him all of... um.

...twice. Maybe?

Okay, whatever, it was totally partly his fault ‘cause she was just going with what Lana had told her.

Right. Totally not the point today though. Tonight was going to be fun, and yet quiet, and all about making sure Lana was happy. …if she arrived, considering Fandom. Ino had even gotten a cake though, so Lana had better show up. Or... or... Ino would eat the cake. Yes. That’d show her. It was a very nice cake, if you asked Ino. But what if she didn’t?

Ino went back to staring out the windows.

"I was starting to think I'd never get here," Lucas said, arriving with a hastily acquired gift and a smile. "I kept ending up at the beach, like Fandom's trying to tell me something."

"I got here through my closet," Ino said, having to grin a bit at that. "I have no idea what that's trying to tell me. I'd say at least you got a pretty view of the beach, but considering the fog today I think I'd rather my closet."

"It was some pretty nasty fog," Lucas agreed. "I think I'd prefer your closet too."

She blurted a laugh. "My kimono might eat you," she teased him.

"...not that I've heard," she said, still pondering that. "But, really, with the way that Fandom is lately, I wouldn't be that surprised if it did one day."

"I feel pretty lucky not to be some sort of bizarre animal," Lucas told her. "It's like a disease here."

Ino made a face. "I'm so glad to not be one either," she said, giggling. "Because, guessing from what Fandom's sense of humor is like, I can make a guess I'd what I'd be, and I seriously don't want that to happen."

Lana showed up a little later than she'd planned, due to ending up in a variety of rather odd places, including the closet in the salle, before she finally found her way to the restaurant. "Hey guys," she said with a smile. "This is really great of you to do."

"Hey, it's your birthday," Lucas said, holding his arms out to her for a birthday hug. "We have reason to celebrate."

She went into his arms easily. "Thanks," she said with a smile. "I'm happy to celebrate with the two of you."

"Me too," she said. "I didn't even think anybody knew it was today."

"Lemme guess, you're no fan of getting older?"

"Well, technically today I turn 22, but everyone here thinks I'm just 20, so..." she said with a smile. "But no, I don't care about getting older. It's just that, most of my birthdays turn out pretty miserable so I try to avoid them as much as possible."

"We'll have to make sure this is a good one then," Lucas decided. "There's even cake."

"Lana!" Ino bounced over for a hug. "Happy birthday!"

"Listen, Ino," Lana said seriously. "Anytime a friend wants to do something nice for me I'm going to be happy. And it's even nicer when they know me well enough to plan something they know I'd like. Especially if they also invite along someone they don't particularly like just because I do."
