The Beach, Thursday Evening
"You know, maybe you should just think about moving your store to the beach," Irene muttered over the phone, "Considering how you seem to live there now."
"I don't like wet feet," Nate deadpanned, distractedly. He was certain he'd previously caught some kind of form on the horizon. He'd yet to pinpoint the island's exact location, but he was starting to come up with a few hunches.
"It beats you getting your hands dirty again," she snarked back. "Are you?"
And there it was again-- something bobbing along the surface. He squinted, his eye flaring up to generate some extra light. "What?"
"Getting your hands dirty."
For a moment, he could make out the shape of a name on the ship's side. Then another shadow fell across it, and no amount of concentration could bring back the particulars. "Hm," he said.
"I'll leave you to your brooding," Irene replied, and you could practically hear her eyes rolling. Nate didn't reply, but shut off his phone and resumed watching.

Houston didn't seem to mind though, and went scampering towards the water, barking.
Stuffing his hands in his pocket, he watched the dog romp through the water. It seemed like a better alternative to throwing something. Still didn't make it any less tempting, however. He might even have growled a bit.
Frustrated and distracted like he was, he might not have noticed if there was anyone nearby.

He considered Murdock, weighing whether or not greeting him would be worth his time, saying nothing for the time being.

"C'mon," he called to the dog, "let's see if we can find home this time."
He turned and... blink. "Oh. Hey. Didn't see you there."

He managed a dry chuckle, glancing over as Houston came running up, covered in water. "That they do." Houston, of course, shook himself spraying water everywhere, most of it on Murdock. "Gee, thanks a lot," he remarked dryly, brushing water off his face, "See if you get any treats." He was smirking, however.

"That's where training helps," he replied, watching the scene the man and his dog were making with some mild amusement. "Saves you some laundry."
no subject
"I should probably look into that, yah," he chuckled a bit, glancing down at the dog. Houston decided to head toward Cable and see if he'd be up for a sniffing. "He's housbroken already and goes along without a leash just fine, but..." a small shrug, "not much more than that. Stay is probably about it. He might be good at a bit of defense." A smirk, "With training, of course."
no subject
"That might be an idea," he told Murdock, crossing his arms. "And be careful he doesn't go out too far while the island's staying here."

He looked back up at Cable, "I'll be real glad when that mess cuts out. Don' know if I'm comin' or goin' no more."

"Could be worse," he added dryly, "we could be turnin' into animals like a lot of the students seem to have done. That'd suck."

He chuckled a bit, "Thankfully, I haven't really. Just that pony thing. But at least I could talk." Then he grinned, "And the flyin' was a bonus."

These were amongst a myriad of things he tried not to remember too much. "You would think so," he said, vaguely, in response to Murdock's last sentence. 'Flying' had its own connotations. He fell silent for a few moments before continuing.
"I can understand you're concerned," he said, "I'm trying to make some sense of it myself." He glanced at Murdock. "Let me know if you run into anything stranger."

He glanced down at Houston and made a face. "You need a bath. Think we can make it home this time, dude?" He looked back up at Cable. "Nice runnin' into ya. I'll be swinging by the center sometime. That is," eyeroll, "if I can ever find it anytime soon."

He hoped fervently that Tether would never meet Houston (and that if he did, it'd be under controlled circumstances). Somehow, it seemed like a dangerous combination.

"C'mon boy, let's go." He headed off, Houston bounding through the sand and the water as they went.
