Book Haven, Monday

Seregil had been feeling under the weather the past week, so hadn't made it much past his bed. He was finally feeling better so headed into town to take his usual shift at the Book Haven.

He opened the shop and laid out a plate of cookiees and a pitcher of iced tea. Then he settled down behind the counter with his sketchbook and idly doodled as he contemplated the upcoming school term.

The Book Haven was open.

Helen had decided to see if anything of interest might be found in the local bookstore and stopped in. She was quite surprised to see Seregil there. "Oh, hello," she said with a small smile.

"Hello," Seregil greeted her with a smile of his own. "Looking for a book?"

"Looking," she admitted. "I don't believe I've ever actually read a book for pleasure, but everyone here seems to. And since I've decided to annoy the priests by doing only what I want I haven't read anything since all they sent with me were important books. But it turns out I miss reading."

"So what we need to find you then is something with absolutely no redeeming value," Seregil said, smile turning conspiratorial.

"Yes!" she said with a grin. "Exactly. Something that would make them go pale with horror."

"Or red with fury. I don't much care which!"

"Trashy romance?" Seregil suggested.

She wrinkled her forehead. "Maybe? The romance part, at least, they'd hate. Is it something I might enjoy, though?"

"As long as you don't take them too seriously," Seregil said. "Bob -- my roommate's skull -- seems to swear by them."

She looked at him oddly. "Why would you refer to him like that? He calls his head something different from the rest of him?"

"No, it's not his head. It's his skull in that he owns it, but like you own a book or lamp or something. It's... well alive probably isn't the correct word, but sentient."

She nodded. "All right, yes, odd, but not quite so much as him refering to his own skull separately."

"No, Harry doesn't have names for his own body parts," Seregil said. "At least not that he's shared."

She laughed. "And you? Any body part names I should be aware of?"
