The Magic Box, Monday

Alex was relieved to be back in Fandom. Sure, she'd treasured the time she got to spend with her family during the last half of summer (not that she was telling them that!), but she'd missed this place. A lot.

Opening up the Magic Box, Alex did a thorough sweep of the store, making sure things were in their place. It had been a while since she'd opened the store and she wanted to familiarize herself with anything new that might have come in.

Andrew wanted to stop in and makes sure everything was going well on Alex's first day back. He was all smiles when he walked through the door.

"Hey Andrew!" Alex was surprised to see him, but happy nonetheless.

"How are you, sunshine?" he asked as he surveyed the store and nodded in approval. "I moved a few things around this summer, but I don't think you'll have any trouble finding stuff."

"Oh, not too bad," Alex shrugged, grinning. "Okay, cool. I was worried I'd come back and this place would look totally different. Good to know there was no need for the worry."

"So tell me about your summer! What did you do? Where did you go? Any cute boys involved?" He was really nosy.

"Well, I was here for the first summer session and then I went home to New York for the second half," Alex explained. "I got sent to a wizarding school with my older brother because it would do me some good, according to my parents." She made a face at that. "It was a good thing I went, though. The head teacher was trying to steal my brother's powers."

"Oh, wow! How does one go about stealing someone's powers? Was it an ancient relic, long forgotten?" Yes, Andrew's world view was tainted by fantasy novels.

As the day turned towards the afternoon, Kael'thas dropped by, opening the door and moving into the shop quietly with no announcement of his arrival.

If Alex had been paying attention, she might have noticed his entrance. Instead, she'd been inspecting one of the various magical items they had in stock.

She happened to glance up and spotted Kael'thas. That caused her to jump back slightly. Recovering, Alex managed a smile. "Hi, what can I do for you?"

The elf smiled at her in return, seeming to be assessing her with his gaze for a moment before he responded. "That remains to be seen. Are you Alex Russo?"

That was a bit cryptic, but Alex could deal with that. "That would be me, yep," she nodded, still smiling brightly. "You're new to town, right?" Alex hadn't seen him around, so she figured that might be the case. Or he'd been hiding the whole time she been in Fandom, that was a possibility.

"In fact, I am," he replied, looking rather amused. "My name is Kael'thas Sunstrider, and as of this weekend I am the new manager of this establishment."

"Oh! It's very nice to meet you," Alex smiled, extending her hand to him.

There was a slight bemused pause before he reached out to take it, shaking once, firmly, before he stepped back. "A pleasure indeed," he said. "I am given to understand from your former employer that you practice magic. Is this true?"

Alex liked this guy all ready. Granted, she didn't want to make a bad impression on her new employer, but he seemed pretty cool. She had a feeling she was in the clear, as far as good impressions went.

"That is true, yes," Alex nodded. "I've been practicing for some time now, ~~canon doesn't give specifics~~ and I recently spent some at a wizarding school before coming back here."

"A school? Well then," he said, spreading his hands as his eyes narrowed in expectant curiosity. "Would you be so kind as to give me a demonstration?"

"It was okay, until I found out the head teacher was trying to steal my brother's powers," Alex admitted. Not cool. She was the only one who got to mess with Justin. "Really? Did you have anything particular in mind? I'm still learning some spells, just so you know."

"It's wizards like that give magic users a bad name," Kael'thas said, eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. "And whatever you feel to be best. Don't worry about impressing me; I was once a student as well, you know."

Alex couldn't agree more. "I'm just glad she's been dealt with," she admitted, knowing the students were safe now. "Okay, I think I've got one."

This one was easy. Her wand appearing in her hand, Alex smiled before pointing her wand at herself. "Edgebono utoosis." With those words, there were suddenly two of Alex standing in front of Kael'thas.

The elf tilted his head as he looked between the two. "Very nice," he said, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Is it illusion or a fully functional doppelganger?"

"Thanks," Alex beamed. What? She was proud of pulling it off. "Oh, it's functional," Alex nodded and the doppelganger demonstrated so by moving to sit behind the counter. "It could be used as a diversion tactic if a Fandom invasion happens."

Alex had yet to experience one of them, but she heard that they were pretty intense, depending on who or what invaded.

"Yes, I can see--" He blinked and looked at the real Alex, frowning. "A Fandom what?"

Okaaaaaay, clearly no one had filled him in on Fandom. "Fandom invasion," Alex repeated. "Apparently, they happen ever once in a while. I've heard about dinosaurs, aliens and I was here for the angel statues. Creepy."

"Ah." The elf grimaced, the glow of his eyes brightening for a moment. "I begin to see why the former proprietor was so eager to find a replacement."

"Me too," Alex admitted, sad that Giles had left. "There's also the usual craziness that goes on, students and teachers turning into little kids, gremlins running around and biting people, making them do crazy things. It wouldn't be Fandom without that stuff happening."

"...He did mention 'strange'," Kael'thas murmured. He addressed Alex more normally, somewhat perplexed. "You say that this is normal here?"

"Strange is a good way to describe this place," Alex chuckled. "Yeah, kind of. You get to use to the random events that happen without warning."
