Ino was a bit conflicted mood-wise today. Really, she should be happy enough at the fact that Ichigo hadn’t managed to get his shirt back from her, and that she was still eating properly (and that it was starting to feel a bit less like a lead weight in her stomach every time she did).

But, at the same time, between the fact that she’d called Temari almost a week ago and still hadn’t gotten a response made her stomach want to do flips. And then Cable-san yesterday, and she knew he’d been lying through his teeth no matter he said.

Lana wouldn’t be by today.

In an effort to stay cheerful, Ino was spending extra time going over each and every plant in the store. As distractions went it was an alright one.

That got a blink--the phone hardly ever rang when she was here--but Ino scrambled over to it, and picked it up.

"Good morning! You've reached Wellspring Arms and Meditation Center, Ino speaking. How can I help you?"

That got, in order, a cringe, a squeak, and then an entirely too girlish squeal of delight.

"Lana! HI!"

"How are you? How are the new kids? How is everything?" Lana said happily.

"I'm good," she said, smiling. "The new kids are awesome, I stole Ichigo's shirt, and I don't know 'bout everything but the store is in good shape and Cable-san's the Mayor now."

"Morning," Cable said, coming down the stairs, one happy puppy at his feet and a box of... something paperwork-like in his arms.

He'd have to get to the town hall soon enough.

"Morning," she said, looking somewhat dubiously at him from where she'd been fussing with a plant. "Morning, Tether!"

Yes, the puppy got the more cheerful greeting today.

Tether bounded over, and... promptly stuck his nose in a plant. It was interesting!

"The plants are watered?" Cable asked, setting his box down on a shelf for a moment.

She leaned over to pet Tether anyway. "No digging them up," she informed the puppy. "Or you'll be sorry."

"They are now," Ino said. "I'm just checking their health otherwise."

"Good," he said, taking the lid off the box to check their contents again. "I'll be gone for most of the day," Cable continued, "You can go anywhere in time, but you can't avoid paperwork..." That last remark was more to himself than anyone else.

"Well," she said, staring at Tether. "It's not like you've really cared 'bout the plants before."

Finally, Tether seemed to notice Ino; he stuck his nose in her knee with all glee in the world.

"They help with the atmosphere." And discouraging customers from actually buying weapons. "Everything's gone smoothly?"

On her way to the preserve, Temari stopped into the shop to hear what it was Yamanaka wanted.

"Oi."

That got a bit of a twitch from Ino as she looked up from where she'd been reading one of her scrolls. Tether was sleeping by the chair.

"Temari-san." Faint surprise.

"I, yeah," Ino attempted to gather her thoughts. "I, uh, kinda wasn't sure if you'd gotten it."

She flushed a bit, taking her temper and mentally sitting on it. Not useful here.

"That came out wrong," Ino said. "I meant, I wasn't sure if you were going to respond." A pause. "Because, really, if I were you I don't know if I'd respond."

*flops* So, my lonely little cubicle of doom? Now isn't so lonely and they've given me company. It's yet to be seen how that changes my availability (if at all) but, well, fair warning. XD;
