Caritas - Wednesday evening [Open]

Jolee wandered over to the bar as soon as he remembered that he didn't pester any of his employees to cover Faith's old shift.

So he was here now. Ta da!

[OOC: Hey, I'm dumb. I'm also around.]

Cal was still trying to figure out exactly how he got himself into something like this, but, considering that it involved Dōjima without a shirt, it was all kind of a blur. Hopefully, though, she would just show up, he'd get her the drink he owed her, and that would be the end of it.

Somehow, considering that it involved Dōjima at all, he doubted this was going to be the case.

Considering that Dōjima was late, as always, it was highly doubtful she'd let the night end so easily or so early.

"Ohaiyo!" she said, flopping next to him. "So, do you think we'll actually cook in-class, or just watch Deadpool throw things at Bass?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Or maybe," Cal offered, taking another sip of the glass of water he'd been nursing, "he gets confused when we get to sea food and actually tries to blow up Bass."

He took a glance at his watch. "How nice of you to join me, Dōjima."

"Too bad, Chuck's too entertaining to die," she sighed, pretending to be sad. "Oh come on, I'm not that late. A girl has to take her time to look her best."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Cal arched an eyebrow. "In that case," he offered, "I'm surprised you're as early as you are. So, I owe you a drink. Go ahead and pick something overpriced and colorful with umbrellas in, and then we can be even."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Come on, gloom cloud, lighten up a bit," Dōjima teased. "You get one too! It's not as much fun if I'm the only one getting tipsy."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't drink," Cal informed her, shrugging a little with a helpless lift of his hand, "and, besides, I only owe you one drink. No offense, but you hardly seem the type to get tipsy off of one drink."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"None taken," she answered, returning the shrug. "I was going to buy myself the rest of my drinks, and try to get you silly-headed enough to agree to something dumb. Like chase ducks in the park."

"So, why don't you drink?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey, I'll agree to chase ducks in the park; that sounds like a great time." He gave Dojima a small smile before just shrugging, and taking another sip of water, a bit of a longer one, trying to decide how much to let his answer reveal. "And I just don't. Can't get past the fact that the taste of it reminds me of a really bad time in my life. That, and if I'm going to do something stupid like chasing ducks in the park, I want to do it with full consciousness and awareness."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded once. "No fair, already outgrowing the teenage 'Do Stupid Shit' phase," Dōjima teased lightly. "I think I'll be stuck there until I'm at least thirty."

"If the gentleman does not drink alcohol, can the lady get him a Shirley Temple at least?" she asked, waving down Tino. "Or since we lack a lady, I'll just have to do it."

"And I'm holding you to that agreement to chase the ducks."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Who said that was an agreement?" Cal laughed a little, but it was tinged with a bit of nervousness over how Dōjima seemed to so carelessly trample on several of his hidden insecurities in so few statements. It wasn't like she knew it, though, so he couldn't hold it against her. "And if you're stuck in the do stupid shit phase for that long, then, clearly, you've got the both of us covered."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, someone has to do all the hard work, at least I have a flair for it," she answered, shrugging. "And you did too, I heard you! 'I'll agree to chase ducks in the park; that sounds like a great time.' Don't go chickening out on me now."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Ha. Chickening."

He had to say it, really. "There was an 'if' to that statement, though, didn't you hear it?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Nope!" Dōjima beamed at him angelically. "Didn't hear it. Are you sure you aren't hallucinating? I hear that happens, people go delirious from lack of stupid fun."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
"I have more than enough stupid fun in my life, I'll have you know," Cal insisted, shaking his head. "I drew a damn armadillo in class today. You look me square in the eyes and tell me that isn't fun."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Dōjima blinked and looked at him blankly before flushing slightly. "Ano, I probably sound like a complete idiot, but what's an armadillo?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Cal grinned slightly. Was that a...blush of sorts on Dōjima's face? Was that very slight hint of color potentially genuine? Or could it simply be the lights of the bar. Either way, Cal knew that his answer was simple. "It's my totem," he informed, nodding firmly and straighting in an almost preening gesture. "For my sex ed class. It's a symbol of my virility."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
There was a pause, and Dōjima pinched the bridge of her nose. "A totem. For Sex Ed. That doesn't tell me what it is, or what it says about your virility."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
"And that was also a joke, Dōjima," Cal said, shaking his head again and thinking that his statement earlier in that class really did ring true. If he'd said that to Amber, she'd have busted out laughing after that pause. "I'm not joking about the totem thing; this guy actually make us make one. An armadillo are these...animals," Cal was realizing that he wasn't sure how to describe an armadillo without making it sound like a turtle, "with this...armor on their backs. They just carry it around with them all the time."

And wow, did that sound like he'd made the right choice on that one.

"They're gray," he added, to not dwell on that, "and sometimes look like rocks."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I know it was a joke, I just can't get the punch-line unless I know what you're talking about," she said, rolling her eyes at him. She took a moment to picture it, and her lips quirked up in amusement. "The grayish hunchback things? Like armored ant-eaters? That's your virility totem?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
It was Cal's turn to blush again, although he straightened himself up a little more and nodded firmly. "Yes. Because they're rock hard and solid."

And hiding something squishy and kind of vulnerable underneath.

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Now I'm starting to wish I'd taken that class," Dōjima quipped, grinning at him. "I want a cool totem too."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"You can still make one. And, I mean, you're clearly a duck, so we'll keep getting you all liquored up and go to the park and frollick and be one with the spirit of your sexual totem."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Dōjima bit her lip, eyes sparkling as she leaned on the bar. "But I turned into a bunny for a week," she said sweetly, "doesn't that automatically make that my sexual totem?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Cal could allow that. "I remember the totem list listed fertile twice," he held up two fingers, "for the rabbit, so sure. You're a rabbit. I'd just use contraceptive if I were you."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course I'm using contraceptives, don't be silly," she said, waving it off like the non-issue it was. "Doubly fertile? That's a bit concerning...What kind of Sex Ed is this, anyway?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"I believe the full title," Cal said, unable to keep from grinning, "included 'An Abstinence Only Approach'."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Dōjima stared before she burst out laughing. "But what's the fun in that?" she gasped. "Abstinence-only? Are you even allowed to discuss contraceptives then? Why are you making virility totems?"

[That makes two of us. Silly mornings. Why do they insist on coming so soon?]

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't even know," Cal admitted, holding up his hand helplessly again as he chuckled. "And I might have made the virility thing up; I have no idea why we made totems, but we did. I didn't even sign up for the class. I meant to take something else, but I'm too lazy to bother fixing it."

And he might have been hoping that he could pick up some good tips, anyway. He didn't think he'd have any problem with the abstinence thing in general with his conviction that no girl would every want to actually sleep with him, not on personal merits but technical ones, but there had to be something about making it a little easier to deal with.

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
Dōjima grinned wickedly. "I'm still keeping my virility totem," she announced, swinging her feet against the barstool. "I hope you're just stuck in the 'Just Say No' class and not 'Sex is Evil' class. Who teaches that sort of thing, anyway? Someone from the Pilgrims?"

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-04 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"You do realize that around here, that's entirely possible, right?" Cal asked.

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-05 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Duh, that's why I asked, smartie-pants," she laughed. "I bet it's a monk. A cranky old monk."

[Ugh. Got ates by works.]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-05 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"Actually, he's kind of young..." Cal told her, frowning a bit. "Very young, in fact. He looks like he should be in high school himself."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] dojima-hime.livejournal.com 2008-09-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Are you serious?" Dōjima shook her head and sighed. "I swear, the standards our education has fallen to, that they let a teenager teach abstinence."

Re: The Bar [9/3]

[identity profile] not-a-mused.livejournal.com 2008-09-05 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe," Cal theoreticized intelligently, "he's genetically engineered to have absolutely no hormones at all, and, therefor, can put such unrealistic restrictions on the rest of us by teaching us an ultimately impossible to maintain ideal about teenage sexual intercourse."
