Groovy Tunes, Saturday [9/13]

Hurley opened up the shop today, figuring he'd be a much better employee this week. He got everything switched on and ready, and even grabbed an album at random and put it on without even looking at the cover.

Today customers would hear the dulcet tones of... Drive Shaft.

Groovy Tunes is open.

That afternoon, Chad, with Prince Oscar Pedro dutifully perched on his shoulder, remembered to come in and check up on how Hurley was doing with everything at the store and all that stuff.

"Hey, Hurley. Going good?"

Chad nodded, carefully moving Prince Oscar Pedro from his shoulder and setting him on the floor. The hairless cat almost immediately went prancing toward a different part of the store to play as he usually did underneath the shelves with dust bunnies. He was a very easily entertained cat.

"Not a lot to it," he said, coming to join Hurley behind the counter and leaning (carefully) against it, arms folded in front of him. He nodded at the register. "So someone wants to pay with a credit card, and they give it to you, and you push the button on the register for credit card, then scan it through that thing there on the side, and have them sign the receipt that prints out. Put it in the drawer, and there you go..."

He rubbed the back of his neck a little. Maybe he could make, like, little direction cards for new kids to have by the register to follow or something.

Chad's head bobbed slowly. "Yup. Pretty much. But I can see how it would be confusing if you didn't know it."

Chad gave a shrug, rubbing a hand through his hair in modest sheepishness at the comment. "Just doing my job, you know? Gotta help manage the place to keep it runnin'."

"Yeah?" Chad really couldn't help asking. "Like who?"

He figured that having half the school as your little siblings worked into that somehow.

Chad would never have imagined himself to be considered 'popular,' much less 'totally popular,' so he gave a thoughtful, puzzled grunt in response to that.

"I would've never thought that," he commented and, then, as if just thinking of something that might explain it, despite that it was chronologically before Hoshi, "but I was in a band..."

Clearly, that explained everything.

"Bass," Chad said with a nod. "I still play it. Thought about putting together a new band lots of times, but...with school and work and everything..."

"Thanks," Chad said, with the small hints of a smile joining his nod. "The last one was great. We got a CD out, too. If you get bored around here, you should check it out. Teal Dear. Kind of..." He did a slight glance around, as if making sure Zero wouldn't be around to hear how he was about to describe it, but, come on, really?, "punkish pop rock."

Chad took a moment to listen. "If it's crap," he offered, "why are you playing it?"

"A...little," Chad allowed. "But, yeah, Teal Dear's better. I am biased, but I'm also usually modest, too..."

"Oh, that." Chad lifted his chin in the general direction of where Prince Oscar Pedro had disappeared. "That's my cat."

"He's a hairless," Chad said, as if that explained everything. "And I got him at the shelter. He's a really good cat and he's actually kind of cute once you get to know him."

As she passed the Groovy Tunes, Momoko heard a snippit of the music playing inside and couldn't resist the urge to pop inside.

"Excuse me?" She smiled at the young man who seemed to be in charge. "Can you tell me who this is that you're playing?" She pointed at the ceiling.

"Me neither. Which I guess is kind of obvious since I asked about them. I don't think I like them, but I wanted to know who they were because - it kind of..." She rocked back on her heels, tilting her head to listen a moment longer. Yep. "Sounds like the back up singers on a karaoke song. The music is good but the actual song is kind of weird. Are they singing in their native language? Some pop songs from my world are like that because they only know a few words in the language that they are singing. Or are their other songs different from this one? I was curious that a music store would play a karaoke track, so I came in." She smiled happily.

Momoko nodded. "Yeah, but somehow it kinda reminds me of it. That's okay, I don't like SMAP either, so my friends all tell me I am strange." That was TOTALLY why they thought she was strange. Nothing at all to do with her being an insane fangirl of anything with superheroes or robots or giant monsters in it, or her ability to practically live on only sweets and cakes.

She looked around the store. "Now that I am inside, this looks like a nice place. Do you sell all sorts of music? Like soundtracks and stuff? I sometimes have to get my stuff online because the stores back home didn't always carry what I am looking for."

"Ah!" Momoko clapped her hands together once. "Are you new to the whole island or just to this job, because I'm new too! Not to the job, but to the school. I don't have a job here. And, well, I was new in July, but now I am not new anymore! I haven't really been socialising so I don't know too many people, so if you've like, been here for years, I'm sorry for not knowing you. My name's Momoko! Momoko Akatsutsumi!"

"Hi, Hurley! Welcome to Fandom. It's pretty awesome so far, and like I said, I've only been here for a short time. But there's lots of cool people here, and sometimes weird stuff happens that's fun but can get annoying. Like a student in my class? Jaina? She turned into a KITTEN! Nothing that weird has happened to me yet. Except for when I first got here, I had to travel through a portal. That was weird and fun. Oh and the bar has zombies!"

"Heheh. Sorry! I am a little hyper. Especially when I first meet someone." Or when there's a robot in sight, or when a really cool tv show is on, or...

"But, yeah. Well, she was. She is in my Leadership class on Tuesdays and she was sitting on her desk and acting like she was paying attention and all. It was really cute. I don't know how she did it, or if maybe it was an accident."
heromaniac: (smile giggle)

"Totally! And once a bunch of new little kids were running around town? And it was the TEACHERS! They'd been turned into young versions of themselves. This place is totally cool and fun."

Momoko blinked. "Oh. Sorry. I just came in to find about that song. But while I am here, do you think you can point me to where I would find any soundtracks? Like to Tvs and Movies? Oh. And foreign, too. I'm from Japan, and it'd be nice to keep up with stuff from home even if this Japan isn't exactly the same as mine."

"Oh, don't worry. If I don't see anything I need I won't buy just to buy." She waved her hand and smiled. "And it's your job and all, so you have to ask, right? I'll go take a look and see what's here. Thanks for all the help, though, you're really nice. I'll see you around!"
