Cal was in one hell of a good mood today, which meant that, at best, Cal was extremely mellow and just made more jokes with the kitchen staff rather than just hiding behind some book until he had to do something. And there were olives again, which meant attempts to pop them up into the air and catch them.

The ratio of olives on the floor to olives that actually made it into his mouth was a highly unbalanced ratio, and perhaps a good indication of why they were going through so many damn olives.

It got to a point where Cal decided that he should just settle down and get around to writing that letter to his brother he knew was overdue, especially since there was news, and he wanted his opinion on whether it was the sort of news he should share with his mom, or if having your once-daughter, now-son telling you that he had a girlfriend was a bit too much for her still.

"Hi Cal," she chirped, as she slipped inside the diner sometime in the afternoon and took in the scene.

A beat.

"Are you seriously that bored 'round here?"

"Yup," Cal commented, without hesitation or shame, flipping another olive into the air. He shifted his feet, trying to move his body under it, and was treated to a nice olive thunking right into his eye. "Oh, sh--" He grunted a little, hand to his eye, trying to rub the slightly stinging olive juice out of it.

"Not anymore, though," he commented, still rubbing his eye as his attention shifted fully onto Ino. "I've got a customer, finally."

"I'd feel bad for you," Ino said, nevertheless fighting the urge to flail about his eye, "but you rather deserved that, really. The poor olive."

"You're siding with the olive?" Cal asked, gaping at Ino incredulously.

"Only 'cause you were throwing it," Ino amended. "So, really, the olive can't be held responsible for its actions."

"The olive is also an piece of food," Cal pointed out, "without feelings that can get hurt unlike the other party in this situation."

"Very." Straight-faced, Cal placed a hand over his irreparably damaged heart.

"Somehow," Cal agreed. "With time, even the deepest wounds will heal."

Then, unable to keep it back much longer, he gave Ino a small grin and asked, "So what brings you around today? Or is it only to make me feel inferior to olives?"

"Hi," she grinned as she walked in and took a seat. "I'll have a bacon cheeseburger and fries, thanks."

Cal couldn't help a smirk. "Gotta love a lady who knows what she wants," he commented on the directness. "Anything to drink with that, ma'am?"

"A chocolate shake with whipped cream and a cherry, please," she asked nicely. "Have you booked our room yet?"

Cal turned a little pink before completing scribbling down Amber's order and sending it to the kitchen. "I stopped by before work," he said and zomg thank you for reminding me that I was gonna play it out. "We're good."

"Your blush is so adorable, Cal," she grinned, and felt giddy over the fact that he already took care of it. "Do we have a balcony? I haven't been on a balcony since the Spring Break trip when we went to Mexico."

"Oh, shut up," Cal commented about the blush, "or I'll spit in your burger. And...did you want a balcony?" He bit his lip slightly, trying to remember if he got a balcony or not. He was kind of a cheapskate, but he might still be able to change it.

Amber sucked in her breath. "You would not because that's just disgusting," she said, knowing he was teasing. "Um," she considered him, that biting of his lip, and assumed that balconies cost more. "No, not necessarily. Just if it came with the room, cool," she shrugged. "No big deal."

"You'll just have to wait and see," Cal decided, since he wasn't sure yet if he'd try to switch. "It'll be a surprise."

"Mm, I like surprises," she grinned.

"So, I got a phone call from ma this morning. Apparently there's a block party this weekend at the trailer park; she wanted to know if I wanted to come home and help with the cook out. Told her no, that I had big plans that involved my boyfriend and a hotel room."
