J,GOB, Tuesday Afternoon

It was entirely possible that going out and being gluttonous after Ethics class meant he had kind of missed the point, but Jess was hungry and not in the mood for anything too healthy. So, it was off to the bakery he went, for something to eat while he scribbled notes to himself in the book he was re-reading.

Peyton wandered in, just craving something sweet after her classes. "Hey, Peter," she said cheerfully.

Jess's head snapped up at the sound of Peter's name, but he relaxed a little when he realized he was the one being addressed. "Sorry, wrong double," he said. "I'm not Peter."

Peyton closed her eyes and shook her head. "Damn it," she muttered. "Is there anyone here who's not a double?"

And just for good measure, since she'd be damned if she'd be caught twice, she opened her eyes, stared at him and said "Christo."

"Uh, bless you?" Jess replied, giving her a strange look. "Are you okay?"

"Much better now," Peyton said. "I, unfortunately, can't seem to meet anyone new who doesn't look exactly like people I've already met. Sorry. Hi. I'm Peyton Sawyer."

"Jess Mariano. It's nice to meet you," he said. "Trust me, if I had my way, I'd be the only guy who looked like me here."

"You have no idea how much easier my life would be," Peyton siad with a ruefull grin. "Nice to meet you, Jess."

"Is there another one of you running around?" he asked. "Or are you just tired of running into doubles in general?"

"Another one of me?" she asked, looking startled. "God, I hope not. Not that I've met anyway. No, just, well, 3 people like Dean Winchester - one of whom was a demon - and now two of Peter - of you, I mean."

"And Brooke Davis too," Jess said. "She's got some double who's not nearly as cool as she is, apparently."

"Right, damn, forgot about her," Peyton said. "Although I haven't actually met the double yet. Brooke, though, is my best friend from home. Except, well, where she's not exactly my Brooke, but we decided that we're close enough."

She looked at him. "I sound totally insane, don't I?"

"You sound like you fit in here," Jess said reassuringly. "Everything here is insane in some way."

"You sound like you adjusted well," Peyton said with a smile. "Been here for a while?"

Maybe Peter had stalked Jess down. Maybe he just wanted some donuts. Either way once he'd gotten himself a snack he made himself comfortable in the seat across from Jess's. "Do you think using superpowers provides an unfair advantage?"

Hey, if he started with "hi" they'd have to do a few rounds of Jess complaining about Peter being there. Peter figured he could skip that step.

Jess looked up from his book and glared at Peter before focusing back on the page. He thought about ignoring him, just pretending he wasn't there, but he had a feeling Peter would only get more annoying. "Provides an unfair advantage when?" he asked.

"Sports," Peter said. He sipped his coffee. "It came up in class today. I mean I get that there's going to be differences, but maybe the answer is different competitions?"

"If it involves the people with superpowers having to be separated from those who don't, I think that sounds like a fine idea," Jess replied dryly.

"Not everybody with powers is dangerous," Peter pointed out.

"They could be annoying too," Jess said pointedly. "Enough so that they should be separated from everyone else."

"I'm a younger brother," Peter said. "You'd have to try way harder than that to make me feel bad about annoying people."

"How is it that your older...brother, right?" Jess asked. "How did he not smother you in your sleep as a kid?"

Peter grinned. "I'm too loveable."

"He bought the whole 'I think everyone in the world is wonderful' thing, huh?"

"No, he thinks I'm nuts," Peter said. "That doesn't stop me."

Jess sighed. "At least I'm not alone. That's slightly helpful to know," he said. "So, what do you want today, besides reassurance that you could play sports if you really wanted to."
