Cafe Fina - Wednesday - 10/15

He'd spent most of yesterday in his room (during everyone's rehearsal) and with his father (after it), going over details but mostly just spending time together. There'd been mention of a bit of cooking instruction but it hadn't happened; really, Liir had spent the time telling Fiyero about some of the things that'd happened at school and the things he'd learned and how his progress was.

All in all, there'd been more productive days but not many better ones.

That was why he was more relaxed than chipper, more content than necessarily prone to smiles, and cooking up things that were a little more like home than here. Home. He could call Oz home today without feeling odd.

That was going to get another nibble on her roll first. "Can't really, you know, blame him for that. But, seriously, something that... should be told, yeah?"

"He thought I'd blame him," he said, looking at her to make sure she knew he wasn't just talking to himself.

"It was... it's a lot," and he hadn't enjoyed it, one bit, had rushed through it in fact, "but I want to try and fix it."

He swallowed the bit of soggy roll.

"I want to stop it all from happening."

She contemplated various answers, before opening her mouth and saying anything.

"How can I help?"

He looked up at her.

"I need to do a bit of planning, and practice a little more so that I'll be able to do my part," he said quietly.

"When I know exactly when and what, I promise you'll be the first to know."

Ino nodded.

A beat.

"Should I start adding practicing more with Staffy to my studies, then?"

He nodded.

"You'll need it where I think we'll have to go."

And his eyes were a little haunted.

"Don't worry," she said, radiating confidence. "It'll be fine."

He shook his head.

"Southstairs is never fine. I just want us to be fine."

She rolled her eyes. "Literalist."

He grinned and considered that.

"Certainly."

She snagged another roll and tried the soup, humming happily before saying anything else in regards to that.

"Yeah, see," she said, "that's a bad thing when someone is trying to bolster the spirits here."

"My spirits are bolstered enough by having you there," he said softly, "though I'm almost ashamed that it'll be the first view of where I came from."

"Don't be," Ino insisted, skipping over the compliment because it made her want to flush with embarrassment. "'Cause I'd rather be doing something useful, than just seeing the sights."

"You'll see that too," he said with a smirk.

"The Emerald is something of a sight, after all."

"There you go," with another spoonful of soup, "see? Nothing to be ashamed of."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Some of it, anyway."

His mind went to the trip he'd taken with Dorothy in the Emerald City.

"...you really need to work on this optimistic thing," she said.

"I don't think I'll ever be an optimist," he said with a brief snort.

"You'll have to corner that section of things for me."

"No, no, no," Ino said, gesturing with her spoon. "See, if here is optimism and over on the other side is pessimism there's this whole big area of being somewhere in-between. Try and at least be optimistic about some things, geez."

"I'm highly optimistic. About the cookies I'm baking. About the new play at the theatre. About the bake sale tonight."

"Plenty of things."
